but you NEED 3" piping for the MAF, thats the only reason why it is mentioned.

velocity is what will effect the maf readings in terms of maf freq, however VOLUME of the system (cross section area of all your charge pipe + IC) determines boost response.

the smaller the volume the quicker boost is created as the turbo has to move less air to reach pressure.

what turbo are you useing?

judging buy what hes got going rite now, e-bay turbo and all, he'll never need a 3.5in section of maf pipe.

also 3in would be more then enough, the smaller housing would also allow for more accurate resolution on the maf.

and if you jump from small to big to small you end up "streamlining" the air through the large section due to the massive turbulence the size changes create. thus makeing MAF readings erratic at best. fluid dynamics 103.

To the OP, I have done some homework on this and I read somewhere I believe 06blackg85 said you should run 2.5" on the hot side, and the cold side all the way up to the MAF, then expand do 3" and run 3" to the throttle body..
he learned that from me!

you charge pipe should be the same size as your compressor out let. as you'll never flow more then what that area will allow.

by useing that size you'll keep system volume low, thus keeping boost response high.

when you get close to the TB bump to 3in to lower the air velocity thus lowering maf freq to within range of the table and run that 3in onto the TB as to keep air turbulence to a minimum.

I have heard that if you are using the stock air to water intercooler that you should run 3" piping all the way to that, is that that true? also where should i put my maf?

Bad choice^^ It's very difficult to get the car to even idle right let alone other problems that 06black mentioned.
