Exclamation Turbo Intake Question??

Ok, I know this is a noob question but when it comes to FI I am a complete noob...
I eventually want to turbo my Cobalt and I was wondering if I bought an intake (looking at the Injen one currently) would I have to change it out when I put in the turbo?

Most likely yes, but it depends on the setup. There is another thread around here with the same question.

You definetely would. Unless you could put the turbo where the supercharger is. Or just use some other intake tubing to connect your intake to the turbo. But most likely it would be useless.

Thanks, so an intake would be a waste, I guess I can spend my money elsewhere, maybe I will work on getting some engine internals..any suggestions on "turbo prepping" my car?

I'm not in any way good with car stuff, I just know that I want fast, but some things to think about are exhaust and handling.... just a thought.

Power is good, but if ya can't keep yourself from a ditch or into a parking lot like the kid from the StreetFire vid, it's only a burden.

I wouldn't do exhaust. You might have to change it after the turbo.

Valvetrain is good as well as suspension and brakes. Forged internals also help, but I would wait on those if you plan on getting low compression pistons. Halfcent is working on a turbo 2.2, you might want to talk to him.

heres what i did in prep for my turbo this summer, the injen cai used as a short ram will work with the upcoming garrett turbo kit that will retain the stock intake there fore letting you use the aftermarket intake with little or no modification, then i bought the corsa exhaust which is good up to 600 hp so if you do those 2 things you can enjoy the added power until its turbo time

Honestly if your wanting to turbo in the future, re-using your intake is the least of your problems/questions

What Garrett kit are you referring to? Who is making that?
Ok, so I can use the Injen CAI and the Corsa exhaust correct, What about the Magnaflow catback setup. Any suggestions anyone has as to what I should do to prep my car for turbo I'm all ears. I guess I am a little impatient and want to start adding perf mods now that won't be a waste of money later.

Oh and if you could get me a sound clip of the Corsa exhaust with your Injen intake that would be awesome. I have only heard the Magnaflow kit and it sounds awesome!

It will all depend on how far you're willing to go and how much you want to spend.

The good thing for you is that you have the 2.2L Ecotech. You have the Build Book as a guide. In the meantime, to "turbo prep" your car you need to consider internals, bolt ons, and items to monitor your engine.

For exhaust, it will depend on what type of piping diameter you think you'll need. You going custom turbo or vendor? Whatever exhause you choose you can keep with little modification to have the piping line up with the turbo (if you go turboback exhaust).

As for the engine itself, look at how much HP you want and you'll then determine the internals you need. Under 250? No internal mods needed.

Look into getting an EGT, AF gauge (the real ones that have their own O2 sensor), and some sort of AF adjuster (word cannot come to mind) like an SAFC, MAFterburner, etc... Turbo Timer will help as well.

There are many things that can be done and I'm sure they can all be listed but this is jsut a short list off the top of my head. I'm kinda sleepy right now

garrett themselves introduced a new kit for the 2.2 at this years sema show and is suppossed to be available early 2006 , the magnaflow exhaust with the 2.5 inch from the ss would work good for turbo but i chose corsa since they are rated to 600hp and are super quiet which is what i wanted
