How did the shaft feel? Real loose and floppy? Or all hard and tight?

Strange. Change the oil recently? Should check both Oil Feed and Return lines for clots... although, if you were running it low on Oil... it'd be dead already.

I've got very little experience in the Turbo Whine department. I've known of a few that did it though.

I'd consult this chart and call Garrett. It their turbo, they'll be able to help a good bit, as well.

Yeah the turbo still works just fine, but i don't want to take the risk of it coming apart in my engine... exhaust fins were scraping a little bit, just enough to throw it all off balance

I didn't have a boost leak though. It spools up just the same cant tell a difference except for the supercharger like noise it makes. you can see where the exhaust fins were cutting into the housing. Only time will kill it.

If your going to take it apart check the center housing rotating assembly for imperfections or damage. If you cant find any damage/imperfections on the fins that is a possible point of interest along with the thrust plate
