2006 Cobalt Lineup

<img src="https://www.cobaltss.net/articles/SSsedan.jpg" align="left" border="0" hspace="5" vspace="5">GM has just releases quite a bit of info on the 2006 Cobalt lineup.

The notable items include:
  • Two new colors: Majestic Amethyst and Laser Blue (replaces Arrival Blue)
  • SS coupe and sedan models with 171-hp (128 kw)* 2.4L Ecotec VVT 4-cyl., 17-in. wheels, FE3 performance suspension, unique exterior and interior appointments
  • Model lineup includes LS coupe and sedan, LT coupe and sedan, LTZ sedan, SS coupe and sedan and SS Supercharged coupe

I am also glad to see that the SS Coupe and Sedan come standard with 5 speed transmissions and available 4spd automatic. The SS Coupe and Sedan will share the same F23 manual as the base cobalt and the SS/SC will keep the F35 to itself.

Here is a quick rundown of the new features of the SS Sedans and Coupes
  • 2.4L Ecotec VVT four-cylinder
  • Standard F23 five-speed manual transmission
  • Available Hydra-Matic 4T45-E four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission
  • Seventeen-inch alloy wheels and performance tires
  • FE3 Performance-tuned suspension
  • Standard four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS system
  • SS-specific front and rear fascias, rocker moldings (similar to SS Supercharged)
  • SS-specific interior appointments, including instrument panel appearance and trim

The specs on the 2.2 L61 and 2.0 LSJ will carry over form 2005 as near as I can tell. However there is the addition of the LE5 Ecotec 2.4L VVT available only on the SS Coupe and Sedan.

Here is a quick run down of the new LE5 2.4L VVT
  • Displacement: 145 / 2384
  • Bore & Stroke (in/mm): 3.46 x 3.85 / 88 x 98
  • Compression Ratio: 10.4:1
  • Horse Power (hp/kw @ rpm): 171 / 128 @ 6200*
  • Torque (lb-ft / Nm @ rpm): 163 / 221 @ 5000*
  • Redline (rpm): 6750
  • Premium Unleaded is recommended but not require.

Look for more updates as we find out more about the 2006 Cobalt lineup.

Now that you mention it, it does seem to have a poorer turning radius than my Z24 Cavalier did. However, I get much less body lean.

The branding change still pisses me off on the non-SS models.

I saw one yesterday on highway. He pulled up next to me, waited for me to
acknowledge him. That's one ugly color! May make a good chick color.
(no offense ladys!)
