I just bought a '08 XFT last week. With 1900 miles on it already, the best tank that I have calculated is 33 mpg with some of that in the city. I drive 67 miles one way to work that is 95% highway, and the best I have seen on the computer is around 36 at 70 mph. Before I get home in the evenings, it will be down around 34 mpg. I shift at 2500 rpm's and hit 5th gear at 45 mph with a very light foot trying to get all I can out it. Hopefully as it breaks in it will get better.
You guys really can't compare the EPA numbers to real world numbers, there are too many variables. EPA numbers are so rigged, that they subtract 10% from what they actually get and then put that number on the window. That means, in the lab, that the XFE cobalts are getting 40mpg on the loop used by the EPA to test highway milage. This number is a good measure of relative economy between two cars, since they are both tested in the same conditions. Street numbers don't compare at all.
not to change the subject or anything but i was just wandering the affiliates on the side of the screen and it took me to a gm forum and i read the xfe utilizes VVT in a 2.2 just like the 2.4 balts have and that the xfe puts out more horse than the regular 2.2 ls and lt models? wtf
The XFE is real they achieved the increase by using several methods...those who read and understood what GM did have posted comments that imply their understanding.
Yes there is marketing envolved but successful marketing truthfully compares your product to others while demonstrating its superior value.
EPA Mileage standards have changed and are a combine figure of the City and Highway mileage. For those of you who get great mileage that's cool, for those who don't I seriously doubt we can blame GM for your driving habits.

I had a 93 Geo Metro FXi I got a solid 32 mpg in town and 42 mpg on the highway. I could spin the wheels in first and chirp them in all the other gears. 12" rims baby lol the tires were 4" wide. the car was 12'3" long and 6' wide at the mirrors. I could keep up with the original Neon lol. I never had to replace the tires but had seen them for $12 a piece. It was cheap and tinny for sure. Still a fun car though. I did just get 39 mpg with my ss/sc s2 this weekend on the highway at 70 mph most of they way and hitting 80 at times.
