I had some dude ask me one time: "hey man, what does the Five-Five "55" on your car mean?" (I swear to gawd) I looked at him again and laughed because I thought he was joking. Then I saw he was serious. "no dude, that is an SS...you know...Super Sport?" He was like..."oh...right, right"

But I agree, Chevy has been smearing the SS around way too much. But not enough for this chuckle nutz who thinks that it is a Five-Five.

Any Chevy car that can outrun the Evolution MR, Subaru STI, and Audi S5 as well as countless other cars at Virginia International Speedway deserves to have the SS badge. Its not like its just an appearance package (like the Monte Carlo), its got the hardware to back up the SS badge.

if SS = Super Sport

Then the 2.4l should have been labled "Sport".

Well to all you out there with the 06 & 07 2.4L N/A cars badged SS its just the exact same car as the 08 2.4L N/A which was rebadged Sport by GM, so don't think yours is anything special. your all in the same boat. GM rebadged it as the 2.0L S/C for 08 would not pass the required emission standards so they revamped it as a T/C with a big boost in HP and to still have the 08 2.4L still badged SS would just not be right. But either way if you have a 2.4L N/A or a 2.0L S/C or T/C they are all slaped together low priced econo boxes that seem to of have and have a lot of repair issues and very low resale values, and if a badge on a car means that much to you, well then get over it

actually the 08s are different. Different intake manifold different ecm and different throttle body. And those 3 differences seem to make the sports slightly quicker than the SS 2.4's.

Well thank you. I did not know that, and that said then I guess if these little things make a so called difference then the 08 2.4L N/A is more of a SS than the 06 & 07 2.4L N/A cars and either way I bought mine for the looks over the base model

you must be the biggest moron ive met on here today, then again you Memer name is Demento. i said i wasnt gonna change my badge. it was an SS from the factory. so how i guess that mean s i think im better thna everyone else huh? i bet you think you know it all too. well in 1963 you could buy an SS Nova with a 6 cyl. hell in 1988 you could buy a Nova with a 4 Cyl (damn NUMMI)If you were a real car guy( or chevy fan) you would know that in the past you could get an SS with a 350 or a 396. so does having the small block make it not an SS nowadays? no .also if you think this car is such a piece of **** then sell your shitbox.

and just to clarify all the bullshit in your post....

alot or repair issues are due to people either... A0 Beating the **** out of the car or B) not maintain the vehicle. id had over 35 passes in my cobalt down the 1/4, i change the oil every 5K fuel filters and regular filter cleanings. i have 100K on my car and have NEVER had an issue.

Wow. Your comand of the English language and spelling is amazing. And I never claimed to know it all. As for selling the car I will use it as a trade in to buy a 2011 Mustang GT when they come out, even when I know it will not have much of a trade in value

I workd for GM lordstown and here is why the changed the dis-placement. SS/SC straight from the factory would spank the corvette off the line 0-60. So after the corvette guys got pissed off and complained, they went turbo. Granted Turbo has more HP, the vette would spank it while the turbo was spooling. SC are more rare than TC cobalts.

It's kinda like putting the SVT badge on a contour or Focus.

Bad example.
There was actual differences in the SVT products.

Some of the late SS models were nothing more than badging

Kinda like how the SS/NA came with different front and rear facias, different suspension, all wheel disc brakes, and a H.O. engine?

I seriously hope you are kidding.

Since when does a Cobalt SS S/C do 0-60 in 4.3 seconds?? Not even close, the best I've seen was 6 seconds flat. Even if it was a 2.4L SS/SC, it still wouldn't touch a Corvette in 0-60.

And how do you figure "going turbo" would make the car slower?? Are you serious?? If you use launch control and NLS, the SS/TC doesn't even have any lag issues, and yet it still only manages 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, nothing close to a Corvette.

I don't know who told you that crap, but stop listening to them.

Lol. I would love to see the reactions of people if someone went around and said their Cobalt would "spank" the vette.

I've been in a family that has owned 4 vette's. My Cobalt doesn't come close to betting as quick as any of them.

Actually, the SS/SC was discontinued because it no longer met emissions requirements.

I'm not going to make fun of you, though, since it sounds like you're mentally challenged.

X2^^^^^

And back on topic, that was a good read. Interesting.

I don't know about you - but when I tell someone who doesn't know too much about cars - that I drive a Cobalt; they just think of it as a regular econ car.

Even though it still is kind of looked upon as such, I feel like the SS/SC or 09 SS deserves a little credit. I love my car and hate getting confused it confused with the Base models.

The SC was cancelled because of emissions?

That gives me one more reason to want to kill every single "global warming" douche, *** guzzling asshat. Argh

Yep and how the LS1 Z28/SS difference was pretty much a hood wheels spoiler and different tips on the exhaust.

The svt focus was a worked over engine with a 6 trans upgraded seats upgraded exhaust different front and rear facias etc...

The contour was similar save for the transmission difference.

So like I said bad example.
