Gas tank options
I know this will get the flamers on my case, I don't care. You can bite me!
I drive 115 miles per day for work. This 12.5 gallon tank is getting on my last good nerve. I make it about 3 days before I have to get gas again. For those who have dropped the tank, is there any wiggle room on putting in a bigger gas tank? Even if I just got another 1-2 gallons it would be a life saver. For long trips you could go 450-500 miles w/out having to stop. It's probably way too much work to even consider fitting a larger fuel cell/tank but I just wanted to pose the question. Had I know this car had such a small tank it might have been a deal breaker when I bought it, since I drive so far to work. Really this should be motivation for me to get a job closer to home but I know I'm not the only person who hates filling up every 3 days.

Have not dropped the tank but I would guess GM put in as large a tank as would fit in the space available.
If you wanted to loose your spare you could likely fit a small cell in beside the battery but I would be worried about a different kind of flames then

Cut 600 pounds and almost half a liter of displacement off the Cobalt and it will get 500 miles to the tank as well, but that's not likely an option in this case.

As for fire hazards, that's what worries me and why I'd shy away from doing this at all.

You never mentioned what car you have btw lol. i usually get 350 miles to my tank. my avg on highway is around 34 mpg... i would suggest getting a air filter, step 1 colder plugs and putting 2-3 psi extra in your tires. take out any extra weight in your trunk... thats my 2 cents i guess. i find my best mpg at 68mph on cruise
