08 cobalt changes
I am not sure why you are arguing with me. Maybe argue is too strong a word??
Do I agree that the manual only S/C turned some away? Of course I do. I know how prevailent the automatic transmision is in North America.
The 2 dr only thing was stupid too---some undoubtedly want the convience of a 4 dr and to have the power of the S/C SS.
I think my orginal point still stands---the S/C SS (despite the 2 short comings mentioned above) is still a popular car. It's fast, handles great and is very affordable. GM will not abandon the top performing Cobalt to an NA 2.4L---that's pretty much all I was saying.

I agree, they're rather popular cars, but in comparison to other cars I don't think as much. Read the below post. \/
Popular, yes, but out of all Cobalt sales it is very small. If someone can find some sales figures they are welcome to post them, but I'd be HIGHLY surprised if the two SS models COMBINED make up more than about 10% of all Cobalt sales. A turbo or LNF Cobalt will similarly be a small segement of total Cobalt sales.

I didn't think we were arguing, I thought we were just stating our opinions, for discussion.

This is what I was saying. It made up, out of all cobalts, very few, and compared to the things like Civic Si's and GTI's, etc, I don't think they sold as much as they did. It makes sense that they would put the cobalt sport as the top of the line performance. They're going more for the economy thing. Also, people don't want to pay over 3.00 a gallon for premium gas. Making the SS/SC wouldn't make them money.

We both know they don't make up a large percentage of Cobalt sales. The more exspensive you make an economy car the less will sell.
Your sentiment that:

is kind of odd. You don't want an LNF Turbo SS OR do assume just because one is not ready exaclty in 08 that GM is not going to do it?
so what are you saying exactly? You don't want anymore fast Cobalts??? ie--no replacement got the S/C SS???
because you think GM is going more economy? why do you think this?
I see far more S/C cmpared to GTI's and Civic Si cars
I think we are on the same page more or less. NO were not arguing but I think we more or less on the same page but you don't realize it!

Well its obvious no one knows for sure and the people who claim they do cover their story with "I cant tell you how I know". Because of this, I think everyone should just sit back and wait. Hope that the lordstown plant does not close, a you really do receive your turbo. It doesn't help to sit here and argue about speculation after speculation. Next thing you know it will be 2008 and the turbo cobalts are out and everyone will be arguing over the 2011 cobalt and the new engine/turbo it will have.
Everyone needs to keep in mind that GM is right in the middle of redesigning their lineup, all of their main cars are due for redesign in the next year or two. The Camaro is coming out, and no doubt GM Performance will be making a huge shift over to pushing that car, and with the V6 camaro starting out at around 20-21K, thats right around a Cobalt SS/SC starts at and it is ALOT easier to sell a V6 camaro then it is to sell a SS/TC (I would rather have a V6 camaro over a cobalt any day). There are a lot of things that can happen...

Oh don't get me wrong! I'd love them to keep the SS/SC or get a SS/SC (i'd go with SC personally). What I'm saying is, from a money making standpoint alone, it makes sense that they dropped the SS/SC. They weren't making profits out of it, and now, due to gas prices being high and people not wanting to buy premium for the car, I believe they figured they weren't going to get a profit, so they dropped it. The 2.4L's don't need the premium stuff. They're N/A.
Here, bush wanted GM to start being like, all economy minded and stuff. I would love them to keep some fast domestic tuners out there, I absolutely would.
I see more civics and GTI's than anything. People here in american think that improts are the best thing since sliced bread. That is where all this 'domestic' vs 'import' stuff is coming from. The civic Si and GTi's sales are much better than the Cobalt SS/SC's.
Partially due to the fact, with the GTI, that the GTI does have an auto option. So, the ss/sc had things that the everyday, non-enthusiast, wouldn't like.
1) Premium Gas/Gas prices
2) Its not an import
3) Magazines usually don't say too many good things about it (and people see these as the omnipotent word too)
4) Manual Transmission
5) Wasn't Marketed correctly/confusion with models/etc
6) (in my opinion) Dealers overcharge and overload them options and the like
The above are my opinions, some may be true, some not.

The 2.4 along with the SS/SC requires premium fuel!!!
i'm with the camaro theory, chevy has never had more than 2 performance cars (plus the corvette) at any one time. even back in the late 60's early 70's there was a camaro and chevelle. they had other fast cars that made a lot of power but they were not marketed as such.
right now its just the ss cobalt and the vette, sure there is an impala ss and all the other ss cars but they are not marked as being high performance rice inspired cars.
in 08 the camaro will be back (I have my doubts on this) unfortunatly it will not be affordable. I would bet the base v6 will cost about the same as an ss/sc does now, and the z28 will likely be over 30,000. that sucks but thats how they make their money.
Its not going to be a high performance market, gas prices are going up and they won't want to lose revenue on the z28 camaro to a cobalt, that won't look good to all the camaro lovers and the gm execs who brought it back.
a turbo cobalt would be awesome, it would cost less than a z28, be just as fast or faster than (depending if the camaro gets the ls2 or the ls3) would handle better, and it would get better fuel economy. why would any logical consumer buy a camaro? GM knows this and they don't want to see it fail.
business wise, its a smart move for them.

i dont run premium all the time in my 2.4. no problems. though i can tell that i get more power less efficiency when i use a higher grade.
also, the lack of an auto on the s/c made me decide to get the 2.4 ss instead. i just never learned stick and dont have the time or means to learn it when i was buying the car. i wish i could but i didnt.

i don't think the fact the ss/sc was stick only turned enough potential buyers away to make a difference. how many soccer mom's could you see driving this thing, with the huge back wing and big wheels. lol. just my .02 cents.
If you want to go fast---RWD is the best way to go! And theres something about V8 torque that a 4cly cannot match. Not to mention the sound!
I see no reason why Chevy cannnot have a higher performance version of a select few models. GM would not build themn if they were unprofitable.

My mistake. I wasn't 100% sure on it. I went buy some other SS owners I know that don't use the premium juice. My mistake
^^ That was my opinion.

I heard that in 2009 the Cobalt will share platforms with the next gen Astra and then there will be a high performance version.(most likely a turbo)..again doin the same thing as as chevy did with the Z06. The cobalt kicked alot of cars asses and i am sure GM wont let the go unnoticed. I highly doulbt GM would not continue this car just because of a V6 Camaro. Plus the Camaro is a bigger car and the cobalt caters to a different kinda group for the most part. GM will bring back the SS they just might not call it that.. who knows we will just have to wait and see what the real story is when it actually happens. I love my SS S/C
oh and i use either mid grade or premium fuel for my car but mostly premium...both work fine for me.

I'm glad I got a SS/SC this year
Wouldve made me sad to miss the boat on this one....im having a great time with the 07.
Now its more a question of when the financing of it is done to hold on and hope the thing actually is a keeper for longer or go for a new model.

I think Cobalt SS will be back. Just have to be patient.
