08 turbo cobalt rumor

Has anyone heard any new news on the rumor about the 2008 cobalts having a turbo or not.
The reason that I am wondering is because I love my 06 LS balt however I have quite a bit of cash saved up and in March I will be running into some more from my profit sharing bonus at work. I problem I am stuck is this. Should I get rid of my LS balt and buy a 07 SS/SC in March or not. I would rather have the 08 Turbo if that is really going to happen, however I don’t want to wait another year and find out that they are not going turbo.

he did answer the question, it has been answered many times before.

no need to jump down his throat for stating the obvious answer. there are already multiple thread asking for updates. if there is an update im sure it will be one of the top posted threads on this site.

check out gms website for updates. if there is nothing there then it is still rumor.

Just wait, Bill from HP almost promised tuning by spring for us 2.2's that means for the money of a new cobalt you can turbo your 2.2 and have a lot more horsepower for cheaper.

nobody said that bro, it wa stated that this thread is already in existance, you can check those out rather than making a new thread and receiving the same exact answers as the other threads.

and there is no reason to not check their website for updates about new stuff coming out, thats when you know it is not rumor anymore

guys, it BASIC forum stuff here.... before you make a post that 100 other people have posted about, do a quick search to see if you can find your answer... i swear, new people only post 3 things:

1) Which intake should i get
2) Does intake void the warrenty
3) The 2008 cobalt is turbocharged... i know for a fact

these are the only 3 things... gets very annoying... that's why the guy said to do a search... had nothing to do with him being an ass, it's just the right thing to do

That's fine, you can act like an 8 year old and do that or you could stick around here and really educate yourself about this car. I gaurantee no one here cares either way so do what makes you happy.

The guy that said search was not out of line at all. The fact is this gets brought up weekly here. No one will know for sure until some test mules get out or it's officially announced so you won't get a solid yes or no answer. The only thing we have to go on are rumors and rumors are useless. There are some GM insiders here that know but they can't say yet because their job is at risk. So just be patient like everyone else. The wait will be over soon.

So then just add to that thread!

And yes, the 2008 Cobalt SS will be a 2.0L direct injection turbo as can be found in the solstice gxp and sky redline.

Yes, the solstice and sky are both rear wheel drive, but that doesn't mean the engines won't bolt up to front wheel drive transmissions.

The information is from where I work coughGMcough

coughProofcough.

yes the motor might bolt up but the tubing would need to be different.

Why would gm do this?

THAT WAS MY MAIN POINT... WHY WOULD THEY? IT WOULD BE REALLY STUPID OF GM TO GO TURBO IN THE FIRST PLACE... WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME GM HAD A TURBO IN ANY CAR?

It actually wouldn't be stupid but would be smart. They would then have the exact same motors in three vehicles meaning they are getting more bang for their R and D buck. It makes perfect sense. Will they do it? I don't know, but it makes sense to.

why not? do ya follow the nhra or nopi sport compact series. gm uses turbos in all there fwd ecotec powered cars which are producing 1200 HP and they are shitting on the competition so there pretty much ready to turbo this beast and put her on the street. and lets not forget about the all mighty grand national or old school trans ams with turbos. gm no's a thing or 2 about turbos.

just doesnt make sense, GM would have to under sell itself base GXP is 27,000 and a base SS is 21,000. It just doesnt makes sense to under sell itself like that. I mean that would be like putting an LS7 engine in a Malibu. But if GM does do it cool, but i dont really see the point again because both engines are dynoing around the same HP. Its not gonna feel like a 55HP gain.

My guess is it could work since they are aimed at different markets. The Camaro and Corvette had essentially identical LS1 motors from 1998-2002, but they still sold a lot of Corvettes.

A two-seat, rear-drive convertible with no trunk isn't going to be as practical for a lot of people as a Cobalt SS is. The Cobalt can be a daily driver for just about anyone - the Solstice is more of a weekend toy.
