2.4 or s/c

hey im new to this site and i am getting a cobalt on order most likely tomorrow. i have a ? on if i should get the already s/c'ed 2.0 cobalt, or go with the 2.4 N/A ss and wait till all the peformance parts come out and upgrade from there. id like to upgrade on an already bigger displaced engine but is the compression to high for any type of forced induction? also the S/Ced has 4.05 in the rear and short throw shifter with the performance suspension, plus i like how u can have the color inserts for the door panels and seats. any input will be appreciated

You won't go wrong either way. The s/c is obviosuly a great plaform to start on. However, I wouldn't say the n/a is much worse. Sure, you don't have boost, but my 2.4 gets up and goes juuuust fine. Plus, they look good in any color and any package combination. But just a tip. Order the Recaro package. The stock seats (even SS s/c) aren't too much to brag about. Not of the utmost comfort.

The 2.4 is still plenty quick, it's just not quite as "boy racer" as the S/C. Colored inserts are kinda nice, but I like the solid black interior with the satin silver trim (check my photo gallery if you wanna look).

Now if you want something that looks cool... try a SS/SC without the huge spoiler. I think those look a lot better than the ones with the huge wing.

I'll put it like this.... if you want every ricer in the world revving on you and doing flybys... go with the S/C. Not that it's a bad thing, but the car just has that attitude. If you want something that's still quicker than most other sport compacts out there, that looks good, but is more on the low-profile side.... go with the 2.4.

I opted for the 2.4 as I said. I love it. I would've prefered getting the stick, but oh well. The auto is actually really nice still. In usual GM fashion, it redlines if you punch it. And when you shift manually, it's incredibly quick. All I'm adding to it is the SS s/c front lip chin add on spoilerish thingy. I just think it'll complete the front end look. But personally, I like the SS n/a's rear bumper better.

* shrugs *

I'd say go with the 2.0 unless you can get the 2.4 really cheap (in the $17k or less range). Because if not, in the end you're going to pay more to add FI to the car than you'd pay for the SS/SC. A lot of us got our 2.0s out the door for $20k or less. And if you can stand to wait that long, wait until spring/summer when they'll have closeouts again on the 2006s.

I love my 2.0 SC and now im spoiled. I will never own another 4 cylinder car that is not

SC or turboed. Ive driven both (2.0 SC and 2.4 non SC) and the 2.0 feels like it has

twice the torque and HP.

Also the SC/SS is trimmed nicer with the seats, wheels, shifter, etc...

Just my .02

Great to see a fellow 2.4 guy.

what's up wit hthe car? color, tranny, what? Plans?

Trust me, break in will be annoying. I drove it hard probably twice for a few seconds. Then that lasted me until the next time. After break in, I was surprised. Make sure to use 91+ though. It does make a difference. Right after I used my first tank of 93, it was noticible.

Keep her clean man!

oh yea sorry, forgot to post details about the car. its silver, 5 spd, its got the pioneer stereo opt(i didnt want it but thats what they had on the lot), side curtain airbags, wittthhhhh the sunroof( i needed that opt). as for plans ive heard GM is comming out with a blower for it after christmas, so thats pretty much the first plan besides tint. i think that blower would be badass on a 171hp(or so they say )cobalt.
