So i went out to one of the local car shows that goes down here every week and this kid told me his ls or lt or whatever had a 2.4 motor in it. This guy was kind of bein a dick and when i asked him how he tuned for it he looked at me like i was an idiot and said "dude you don't tune a stock motor" i asked him again and he something something like " It's a motor swap man. The computer came with the motor."

the kid was kind of a jackass so i was like whatever man and let him go on his way. Oh and he said something got messed up with the car and the dealer messed up so thats why he's got the 2.4...... dont ask i dont know....

I don't know much on motor swaps but are the computers interchangable like that? that sounds like a promising way for a 2.2 guy to get tuned, would be to take one out of a 2.0.

As far as that kid, i dont know what his deal was...

If I were doing any kind of motor swap I'd at least try to get a 2.0L

 

computers are not interchangeable. Kid most likely doesnt know what he is talking about. to pull it off he would basically have to put a 2.4 in the shell of a 2.2

Well you wouldn't just swap out the computer. You would use the whole wiring harness with the computer. If you did a swap to another motor this is what you would do.

 

I'd have had him pop the hood so I could have PWNT him on the spot! $50.00 sas he's a 2.2 and he's BSin.

 

why would you even swap??? Why not just get the 2.4l ss Coby??

 

his excuse was the dealer messed something up after his car broke so they just put a 2.4 in it....


oh yea i know this kid was a total tool.

as soon as i started asking questions he said something to try and make me look stupid, i cant remember what, and walked off.



oh and so i guess i couldn't just switch out computers? Guess ill just have to wait like everybody else...

 

You know, I totally believe the story now. I just got back from my dealership. I was having a problem, but they messed up and put in an LS1 instead.

 

Some dumb ass:
"I have an LS with the 2.4L engine!"

Me:
"Show me"

Some dumb ass:
"Oh, I can't right now. I (insert bullshit excuse here)"

The newer version of the 2.2 with individual coil packs looks a lot like the 2.4 on the outside which I think is confusing some people.

Also, if you were to swap engines, yes you would swap computers as well. They are only capable to work with the original style crankshaft sensor that it was designed for.

Probably has a a friend that has a 2.4, and when they popped the hood on both to look at the difference, they realized
"zomg, they look the same!! dealer musta hooked me up!!"
Better yet - that same scenario happened at the dealership and idiot paid more for it.

What color were his gauges? Even have the 2.2 sport package?

 

This has happened here. There's a dealer that put badges on a 2.2 Cobalt and sold it to a guy telling him it was the 2.4 SS. I thought it was them just pulling a line on someone until I heard about the changes to the engine bay in the 07 2.2s. I still laughed at the guy.
