Over time the chain can stretch and the tensioner can weaken. If you're lucky it will only jump a notch or two and your car will only run funny until you get a new chain. If you're not, it will jump more and knock your pistons into your valves.

It could be nearly a grand at the shop for parts and labor, but probably worth it if you're serious about keeping the car long term. And with a job like that, another 60 bucks on a 2 day rental won't kill you.

That made me lol.Timing belts should be changed around 70,000 miles. Are u saying a chain is only gonna outlast a belt for 30,000 miles?A timing chain isnt a maintenance part.It should last the life of the car.It might stretch alittle bit,but the tensioners should pick up the slack.Unless u hear the timing chain slapping around, its fine.

A timing chain is nothing like a belt, which is a piece of **** design. Hence the reason why even the Asians, which are always behind the times, are finally phasing them out after using such an inferior design for so many years. Timing belts require replacement on average every 75K miles, which can be damn expensive. Figure labor, timing belt, timing belt tensioner and idlers, crank and cam seals, water pump, oil, antifeeeze, and possibly a valve cover gasket, and you have yourself a $1,000 repair bill easily. Over 200K miles that can add up to between $2,000 and $3,000, every last penny of which you wouldn't have to spend if the car didn't use such a **** poor design in the first place.

Timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine under normal operating conditions. Under performance driving or heavy duty use, the timing chain may develop slack in which case replacement of the tensioner and/or timing chain may be necessary. Unlike belts, rarely do timing chains snap spontaneosly or require service. I don't think I've ever seen a car that required a timing belt service at 100k miles, except for a piece of **** Toyota Celica which had the chain snap and destroy the engine. No major loss there though, it was probably better off.

Looks like someone just got schooled and can't take the heat, so you resort to name calling.

When you know your ass from a hole in the ground, come back and try to argue your worthless point.

He's obviously uneducated and very low on intelligence. Another stupid ricer on this forum, typical.

What scares me is that someone might actually listen to his advise.
