bullcrap ...They told me 28 city 32 highway when I bought my 05. For 3 years I average 21.9 mpg in the winter and 26mpg with a mixure of city/highway. And yes I realize now autos don't get what the stickers claim. My opinion they should change the damn mpg ratings then! I baby that thing too total bs how these companys claim gas millage. With that said you would be lucky gettin 28 city 32 highway in a 2009 cobalt automatic

that may be what the fit says on the sticker, but they lowballed that. i drive my cousins and consistently get 40 or more mpg on the highway, and avg. around 34-36 with mixed driving. thing is nuts!
i used to drive the AC expressway every weekend, and i'd average 38-42mpg with my cruise set on 70 stock. after i got the stage 2 and my intake i'd average about 35mpg. it all depends on how you drive, driving conditions and the octane rating you're using. thats also why there is always the disclaimer "actual mileage will vary with options, driving conditions, driving habits and vehicle's conditions. results reported to the EPA indicates that the majority of vehicles with these estimates will achieve between...."
i think 36mpg is pretty realistic if you drive responsibly. plus thats for a 2.2 engine.

I just got 40mpg on my 600 mile trip i just took in my LT. I'm happy with the way this is going, Cobalt is just getting better and better. too bad I won't be trading in my Cobalt anytime soon, (and I hope never).
I get a consistent 31-32 in the warm weather on my LS with a mix of city/highway driving. I used to get around 26 in all city driving when I had a city commute. I lose a couple MPG in the cold weather.
That's actually 36 MPG for 2008.5. The 2009 2.2 will be getting VVT, so there will likely be further improvement on the 2009s. That ought to help the autos as well since XFE is just for MTs.

I was going to say yea, but with how much hp, 110?
But wow, 148 hp too. Impressive!
I have a 140 hp '06 Civic and mpg is always in the 30's, with my best recorded at 37 mpg doing mostly highway around 70 mph.
Way to go, Chevy!

The cobalts get amazing gas mileage..my brothers averaged 34 with city/highway mix and most of that being city, it was a 2.2 5 speed. My ss/sc gives me 33-34 on the highway with all my mods. You people that aren't getting good gas mileage need to lighten up with the right foot
