3rd party Keyless entry system and Warrenty

Hello

I figured this was the most appropriate place to post this.

I have and Cobalt, but my g/f has a 2007 Honda Fit, and for Christmas I was going to give her a Remote Keyless Entry system installed by a local electronics store.

Its schedualed to be installed tomorrow, but tonight her father started saying he didnt want it to be done because he heard stories where the installer of the system made an error, and the cars entire electrical system was rendered useless.

To make things short:

Will an electrical product (Remote Keyless Entry) installed by a 3rd party void the new vehicle warranty if something were to go wrong?

And I'm aware of Magnussen Moss, but I dont think it applies here.

Any advice/input would be appreciated.

Thanks

ya check with your local dealership to see if it will void the warranty. and ask if they will install it to preserve the warranty if the previous question was answered yes.

Thanks guys for your responses.

I talked to a GM mechanic and he said everything is fine.

But my g/f father heard a story where another person had something installed and the installer left a wire loose and the electrical system was shot.

Obviously under that case the warranty wouldn't cover such a thing.

Im a little frustrated becuase this was my xmas gift and now I may have to think of something else !

Ask the shop that is going to install the keyless entry if they warranty their work to not burn out the electrical system .

It should be a simple 2 wire setup

Power and ground is all that is needed to hook this system up. If done right, It shouldn't void the warranty since the dealer shouldn't be able to find it. I guess if the connection was to come loose it could do some damage, but with such a simple install you would have to be a complete dumb *** to **** it up. Worst case, it'll pop a fuse. If it is accompanied by an alarm system also, then maybe.

ya but some of them have the remote start with them and those require you to tap into the igntion coil to detect rpm ranges and all that sorta thing. which can get a little tricky
