My dealer put 6.75 quarts in my Red Line, that seems to be what it takes to get it full when I change it.

NO, only 2.0L, 2.2 is 5. Sorry for not clarifying and over looking yours is a LS.

On my second oil change now and it takes 6.5 quarts. ^.5 puts it 3/4 to full on the stick which is where it should be.

Always go by what your owner's manual says. That way there will be no complications with the dealership if something happens and they ask how much oil you put in the car. Beteter safe than sorry.

I work at a dealership, trust me and use the owner's manual.

I also work at a dealer and there are always misprints in owners manuals just like the misprint in the SS manual about the oil.

Yes, but if a dealer asks you, you will be able to show them that the manual stated that amount. Therefore, you do not get into any hassles.

For the 2.2L plan to buy 6 quarts !!!
Mine took about 5 and a half quarts.

The oil level line is right below the top of the dip stick marker when the engine is hot.

And Don't forget to reset the Idiot Oil Monitoring System.

The supercharger is 100% self contained and shares no oil with the engine.

It's 5 quarts when the dealer changes my oil and I have checked the dip stick and it's full. I don't know where ppl get the idea that it takes 6+ qts of oil.

So lets review:

1) Owners manual 5 qts
2) Service manual 5 qts

Ok so where does this 6 qts come from

Now I don't doubt that the engine will take 6+ qts of oil and show full on the dipstick but that doesn't mean it is supposed to have 6 qts in it.

if you dont put 6.5qts in youll be sorry

With out a doubt its 6.5 qts of oil, i pretty much do oil changes all day and i did my own on my ss s/c... put in 6.5 qts.. start the engine, turn it off(fills up the oil filter) and youll notice that 6.5 qts is perfect

(FOR THE 2.0L s/c only)

5 quarts DOES NOT REGISTER ON THE DIPSTICK!

I just changed my oil this past weekend. 5 quarts doesn't make it to the measurement part of the gauge. Then, when you start it, IT DOESN'T REGISTER ANYMORE PERIOD.

6 quarts put it halfway up the gauge. Not empty, not full. Seems pretty damn safe to me. 6.5 quarts will get to the full line.

The owners manual is wrong, plain and simple. Anyone with automotive experience who has changed the oil on the SS will tell you so.

I would NOT reccommend having only 5 quarts of oil in there. Maybe not all these cars are the same, but has anyone with 5 quarts had the dipstick read OK levels? I wouldn't think so.

people forget the oil filter has to absorb oil into as well. so if you put in 5 qts the oil filter may hold a 1/2 qt (im guessing, not totally sure how much it may hold) so in order to make up for the loss that was absorbed into the filter you have to add some oil so it will read on the dipstick. when i put in 5 qts it didn't register as well on my car so i added a little bit at a time and checked the dipstick until i was satisfied where it was. on a side note when i poured the OLD oil from the car back into the empty containers it FILLED UP 6qts. one 5qt jug and one 1qt bottle.
