6volt battery

I know this is probably a stupid question but if I want to test something out such as led lights I can just tap the positive and negative wires to a 6 volt battery right?

if there is no resisitor you will most likely burn up the led's using a 6vlt battery, you would be safer using an AA battery. if they have a resistor already attachted, it may light them but you are better off using a car battery.
