anyone ever replace the water pump?

anyone ever replace the water pump?

rebuilding my engine. just wondering if anyone has ever replaced there water pump. i got a new one. ive herd you need a special tool? can anyone chime in?

nope, no special tool, I pulled carstedts off pretty easy, just unbolted the thermostat housing, pulled the tube out that runs accross to the water pump, its just a o ring seal, and pull the bolts on the water pump and off the block it comes

Comes off easy, no real reason for changing one, have never seen one go bad.

there is a special tool but its only if your doing it in car and its to keep the timing set. you can buy it from mac tools for 59.00

you can do it without, just takes a little more time and some thinking to hold the chain up, but it can be done

It's the same one that drives the balance shafts, what exactly do you mean?

yes I agree. But I was just letting it be known that yes there is a special tool and thats what its for so in case someone else looks at this thread and doesn't know alot about cars and goes o well there is no tool lets just swap it and mess it up then he wont be miss led.

Pull front cover, remove timing chain, then water pump/balance shaft chain.

Put neutral balance shafts in and you don't HAVE to time it haha
