Question *****!

Well, one, really. I'm half way through installing my new Hurst short shifter. I have to remove the ball to get the 'boot' of the center console to fit over it. But the thing won't move if I try to unscrew it. The makers instructions suck badly and the how to thread doesn't mention this vital step.

Anyone know how to get one off? (the shift ball, that it is!)

So no-one has any advice or experience with a tight ball on their Hurst quick shifter? How to remove it?

06+ have a torx screw under the 1-2-3-4-5-R plate. Once that is out I used a large flat blade screwdriver and gently pried directly under the ball and the reverse lock-out part. And once it moves a little bit I could pull it off by hand.

Lol the hurst one should just screw off. It has a locking nut directly under the ball, which is used so the ball will be tight with the shift pattern facing the right way.

Awesome ,thanks. Just tried it and it can't be turned at all. I'm guessing it was messed up at the factory since it's right out of the box like it.

i put the Hurst short throw in about a year ago and honestly, i was disappointed. I should've waited and bought the TWN shifter. Anyways, I went to install a "T" handle instead of the ball earlier this year. I got the ball to twist off about 2 threads and that was it. It wouldn't budge any further. Keep in mind that when I installed the shifter, the ball spun right on without any drama so I have no idea what's going on with it. I don't want to muscle on to it and break the pretty chincy internals of the shifter.
