Blacking Out Taillights
I've been reading up and doing some research on blacking out the taillights, and I wanted to know if there are other options other then VHT Niteshades Tinting Spray. Are there other alternatives to using a spray on tint? Such as actual tint of some sort that is applied to the outter surface of the tails, like a vinyl or something? I also discovered from another forum someone saying that i can use RC Hobby Car Black Window Tint Paint that hobby stores sell. Its cheap and they say it works great, no signs of fading problems but im not so sure this is the best finish. I want it to look glossy black like plastic. Not flat black like the niteshade stuff does. Supposively the RC car paint stuff gives a nice semi gloss to it without having to put any seperate gloss. Im just really debating on what is the best way to go about this particular mod which is nuthin really, but i want the best possible look. Any suggestions or answers to my questions?? Thanks.

I used a vinyl material. Not too dark, I got a whole set of it for all the lights on E-bay for like 20 bux. I just cut what was meant for the headlights, and did the third brakelight, and the 2 rear fender lights. Looks alright. Apply with a heat gun or blow dryer in warm weather. still lets the light go through, but really blacks out the reverse light.

What grit of sand paper do i need to use for wet sanding after spraying the tail lights? Also, where can i get this clear coat spray, and whats the best clear coat spray to use??

a very very fine grit. check you local hardware store. i used 3000 grit on mine but i think you can get finer then that. i decided to recoat with more nightshades about a month ago and left the lights with a dull look to offset em from my paint. i like it better but get asked all the time why i didn't make em shine. i don't care what they think i think it looks hot. check out my pics and vbgarage.

look up rockblocker. They sell different films for tail and headlights in a bunch of different colors. They are precut for the application although I do hear that they are decently hard to apply correctly. They will run you abut 40 bucks but if you are looking for something that isnt permanent this is a great choice. I've used the niteshades tint and it works great also and is very easy to apply its also a lot cheaper.
