Brake Vs Clutch Bleeding

I've looked through many threads and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. This might be a stupid question, but do you have to bleed the brakes and the clutch every time you work on either system? For example, If I did work on the brakes, would I also have to bleed the clutch? I understand both systems use the same reservoir which is why I'm confused. Thanks.
