I know one of the Redline guys snapped his axles too . . . I don't understand how, I launch my car hard all the time, and I've had it at the dragstrip. Never once had a problem, nothing's ever snapped, broken, or blown up on me, and I abuse the **** out of my car. WTF?

it usually only takes one trip to the track with your daily driver to turn over to the darkside, the last trip i made was with my 2nd s10 it was an '88 s10 with a crappy paint job a 383 destroked and a built up drivetrain. when i launched it i broke the motor mounts and twisted the frame the first run... i was pissed and on that day i swore i would never launch my daily driver again.

You're lucky Chevy will fix it. I don't think they should.

C'mon people. You're racing a car at a track and abusing the crap out of it. It's not a race car. It's intended as a passenger car. I don't think Chevy should have to warranty a car that is being raced and abused to the fullest like that.

I'm not surprised the axle broke under heavy abuse.

It is a performance vehicle and should be covered by warranty as one.

If you broke an axle on a geo metro launching it at a track, then I would be more inclined to say "too bad, so sad".

However, the fact is GM can't take special interest in every case and try to prove the failure of a part was caused by abuse.

Former friend of mine blew his motor in his Type-R at the track. went 1st.....2nd.....3rd....2nd..boom.

(yes, he was an idiot)

3 people called the dealership before he took it there saying he had it on the track, therefore, bye bye warranty.

Glad they are covering your repair, but I'm sure they don't know where you were when it happened.

even if he wasn't on a track, if he launched the car on the street it shouldn't have happend. I launched my Alero with a 5 speed tranny and 2.4L quad 4 all the time without ever braking an axle.
