Buying a Used Cobalt SS

Hey,
I am very serious about buying a 2005-2006-ish Cobalt SS/SC within the next 6 months or so. I want one with under 65,000 miles. I am looking to spend under $12,000. Someone told me that most if not all of the used ones he had seen were badly "beaten". I was just wondering how safe or unsafe it is to buy a 05-06 Cobalt SS? I understand that since it is an SS it may have been driven hard however, my opinion is that any car can be "beaten", and, the Cobalt SS may be more suitable for that type of driving. Anyway, from what you have seen, how do these things hold up with the way they are driven on average?

-Thanks

just like any cheaply priced sports car, probably not that great in finding one that hasnt been beaten. but its best to try to find one that hasnt been modded.

best bet is to check the basics, stock air box, stock supercharger pulley, stock exhaust, and not painted interior trim. the closer to stock it was, the more likely somoene was just driving it to drive it.

the thing with your idea bout finding a stock one is that you dont kno if it was modded but returned to stock

how many people that mod there car past stage 2 can keep there hands off of painting the valve cover, spark plug cover, s/c, interior trim, and calipers?

I bought mine used with 50k on it have not had any problems so far. I would just try to find one that was a 100% stock if possible like I did.

I looked for a few months till I found mine. I bought it from an older lady who never drove it hard, just liked a "nice looking" car. bone stock, mint shape, I doubt it ever saw higher than 3000rpm. so like everyone says, I'd look for something nice, and not modded to holy-hell. but realistically, any car can be made nice or reliable again. just might take a little work and money.
