These vehicles are in the wrong class, if you broke it down into the cobalt type car you would probably get this:

1. Toyota Camry 218,517
2. Honda Accord 178,116
3. Honda Civic 165,056
4. Chevrolet Impala 144,730
5. Toyota Corolla 132,182
6. Chevrolet Cobalt 119,952

I think sales for the Cobalt are slow because they weren't enough produced. You can go to just about any dealership and find 50 F-series or Camry's. My dealership I bought my cobalt from had 2 base models, and 1 SS/SC. Yet it had 100 Silverado's. It all depends on what kinda of vehicle you need for your life style, not to mention little girls are buying these huge cars to feel more comfortable in, maybe they should learn to drive them atleast! lol

So Cobalt is #3 in its segment...not bad. There's lots of room for improvement. I know the Cavalier topped 300k sales a few years, and this car is a huge improvement.

These sales really reflect that Americans are concerned with raising gas prices. The top 2 are full sized trucks.

I honestly don't know how people afford to drive those things. Either they have some great jobs, or they're forgoing other things in life so they can fuel-up their precious rigs... Don't get me wrong, I loved my truck but there comes a point where you have to realize that you're just throwing money away...

woot! i like this excerpt... "The combined sales of the three top-selling trucks is more than the sum of the six top-selling passenger cars."

although i can't say much... i have a ram too.

I agree. I can't figure out the logic with people continuing to buy gas guzzlers at these numbers. I talked to a few guys at work woth trucks and they said they'll pay whatever because they love their trucks and V8's. Personally I think Americans need to sacrifice a little so we don't have to be so dependent on foreign oil. Also, to save the environment.

Me and my wife got rid of our SUV for a mazda3. We have been saving a lot in gas money, but it is more cramped. It's worth it in the long run though.

Ok looking at that link...

Did they choose the worst looking picture of a cobalt possible?

Maybe it is the angle of that shot but it does not look good.

That's exactly the kind of pig-headed attitude that keeps them selling, though. "I ain't givin' up mah truck!" I'll admit I was somewhat guilty of that at one point, but I woke up...

My cousin is a prime example. Has an '02 Yukon Denali, and while it's a nice vehicle, it was costing him over $90 per tank last summer. His excuse? "I need a V8." For WHAT?? He doesn't tow or haul anything; just drives it! The kicker to all of this is, he's always complaining about never having enough money. Gee, I wonder why?!

Sadly, I suspect these same people will still be saying these same things even when a gallon of gas costs $10...

That's just it- we really wouldn't even 'need' hybrids if more people would start buying economical gas-powered cars like the Cobalt, Civic, etc. Why do you think Civics sell like hot-cakes? Because they get nearly (or over) 40 MPG and they run forever. That's all we really need right now.

That must be old data because the Ford announcement yesterday seems to confirm that Americans are no longer buying SUV's - truck sales at Ford have dropped 53% since this time last year - THAT'S A HUGE # FOR A CAR COMPANY!! Thank goodness they still own companies like Mazda and Volvo to keep them alive!!!

Car companies will keep making SUV's and trucks until consumers stop buying them... it's supply and demand. Same with people buying these things and paying high gas prices... as soon as the costs of driving a truck outweigh the benefits consumers will begin buying smaller cars.

Anyway, all I can say is that Americans aren't going to "sacrifice a little" until it hurts in the wallet.

End of economics lesson. Haha
