Cobalt is awsome but.......
Ive owned alot of shos/91 sho plus/94 auto trans<got totaled>/95 auto and a 99 sho.Still got the 99 sold it to my daughter ,its got 89k on it .Good luck with the project.Remeber parts are very pricey and are not avalible.Also the v-6 needs camshaft shim adjustments about every 60 k .
Were the rims and stuff extra on the window sticker? I would go a foxbody 5.0 mustang route. cheap car, cheaper parts, and the engines are pretty stout (grab one with forged pistons, 87-90 if i remember correctly)
Good luck with the SHO LOL. Make sure you replace the subframe bushings and if you get a SHO from 89-90 with the cable shifter replace that with the rod shifter from 91-95.
Make sure the 60k maintenance has been done(kind of hard now that its 20 or so years old).
Look out for the normal taurus rot on the undercarriage and the rear quarters and subframe.
Im sure if theres any other SHO/Taurus owners they have more advice.
SHOforum.com is a great place to learn/buy/sell stuff for the SHO.
the only reason 89-95 SHO are so freakin sweet lol is because its not a ford motor
yamaha made a special high output race motor for the SHO. Only in 89-95 though, from 96-99 that SHO was half yamaha and half ford and thats why it sucks! i figure i got my cobalt so i dont need to rush to get the SHO rolling. i will post updates when i get her.
But more projects cars? and more SHOS? anyone

I used to own a couple SHOs. They are quick cars for being so overweight. 89-92 only came in manual with a 3.0, 93-95 had the 3.2 with an auto, then they went to the 3.4 V8 which drops cams soo stay away from them lol
Sounds like a good project car, but be prepared to have it as a project for some time lol there are a couple good forums for them but parts are still quite hard to come by.
Buddy has a 94 MTX with a procharger. That thing hauls some serious ass. Sleepers for sure. No one believes an old taurus had a manual trans, let alone getting stomped by one.
Good luck on your search.

Btw I used to have a 92 SHO 5spd. If you get the dynomax catback I recommend a resonator they are VERY RASPY motors especially with that catback! They are fun cars. But they are fickle and definitely need a fair amount of maintence! But are fun and can knock down some decent mpq. I used to get around 31-32 averaging almost 90mph when I was going 3 hours between home and college.
Cobalt is kind of a project car right now. my father in law has a power wagon on his farm that i want to fix up and my dad has a 78 el camino with a 454 bored out to a 468 that dynoed 550. he won't take it to the track though idk why
They sound legit as fack lol

yeah for sure, used to have an 89 5.0, was a nice car if you look past the rust.
Mostly because my dad would be helping me, he very familiar with the LT1.
He has actually taken one apart and put it back together before with a buddy.
Though.. just speaking hypothetically here. I dont know much about the camaros anyhow.
Either a LT1 or LS1 boosted would probably be intense lol

That's a sweet plan man, I love my B Series trucks, I've had 8 of em, but now I have a 72 Datsun 620 bullet side to work on, just no money to do so right now. I used to be really active on the bscene though
my friend has tried so many times to sell me his b-series mazda. i would but he put a racing rear in it with a small v8 i forget what size. if it was sitting stock i would jump on it. but he took it in the wrong direction of what id wanna do with it.
First, I found this thread because a part of the following was in someone's sig;
Your car is a (if my memory serves me correctly) "Sport Appearance Package" car;
Essentially;
I didn't realize that 2009-2010 sport appearance cars didn't receive the rear discs ~ so that's news to me.
Fun fact - The Sport Appearance Package option package was called 'Team Canada Edition' for the Canadian market ~ probably because GM was a sponsor of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, and traditionally compacts sell better in Canada...
SHO's are nice cars ~ but the last run in I had with one in my personal 'project car' was a time when one of my passengers noticed the car first, then I turned my head to see the guy obviously power shifting...
(it was an early manual SHO, that hte guy had obviously had some fun with)
so without down shifting, I tromped on it, and walked away as though he was standing still
lesson to be learnt;
Pick your battles.
Essentially;
- Brass at GM decided that the 2.4L cars shouldn't be called 'Super Sports' ~ so the name was changed for the 2008 model year to 'Sport' - it was an exact carry over from the 2006-2007 SS-2.4L.
- After the 2.4L engine was discontinued in the Cobalt, the 'Sport' package was continued, albeit in a bit of a watered down form.
- The "Sport Appearance Package" is an option package on the LT2 which is basically an extension of the 2008 model year 'Sport' (same interior, same wheels, same sound system, same bumpers as the 'Sport' model).
