i just think they are the best sleepers and its Hilarius when you lose to a taurus but i mean its only a taurus so its easy to find most parts but there actually is a good amount out there for them. SHOsource.com has all of the goodies

Were the rims and stuff extra on the window sticker? I would go a foxbody 5.0 mustang route. cheap car, cheaper parts, and the engines are pretty stout (grab one with forged pistons, 87-90 if i remember correctly)

No SHO owners on here????
Projects??
Ive owned a few SHO's. 2 92's blue and green and a 98 v8.

Good luck with the SHO LOL. Make sure you replace the subframe bushings and if you get a SHO from 89-90 with the cable shifter replace that with the rod shifter from 91-95.

Make sure the 60k maintenance has been done(kind of hard now that its 20 or so years old).

Look out for the normal taurus rot on the undercarriage and the rear quarters and subframe.

Im sure if theres any other SHO/Taurus owners they have more advice.

SHOforum.com is a great place to learn/buy/sell stuff for the SHO.

But more projects cars? and more SHOS? anyone
Actually the motor was a ford motor that ford sent over to yamaha for finishing. It was actually never intended to be put in the taurus. But due to a cancellation of another vehicle the taurus got the motor albeit pretty detuned!

Sounds like a good project car, but be prepared to have it as a project for some time lol there are a couple good forums for them but parts are still quite hard to come by.
Buddy has a 94 MTX with a procharger. That thing hauls some serious ass. Sleepers for sure. No one believes an old taurus had a manual trans, let alone getting stomped by one.
Good luck on your search.
The problem with the 96-99 car is how they attatched the cam sprockets to the cams. Theres now a fix for that.

there are cams headers and other things available for the SHO's.

but the Gen 1(89-92) and Gen2(93-95) are only 2800lbs so thats nice and its deff going to be a long project thats why i got the cobalt yeah im only looking for a 5spd
The Gen 3's really arent a waste of time with a 5 spd swap they actually move pretty nicely. The v8 guys are still digging into this motor but the v8 motor seems to be very loosely based off of the 2.5 duratec motor. The heads dont flow the greatest but there are a few supercharged ones running around now. And im willing to bet a supercharged 5spd v8 would run very well!

Btw I used to have a 92 SHO 5spd. If you get the dynomax catback I recommend a resonator they are VERY RASPY motors especially with that catback! They are fun cars. But they are fickle and definitely need a fair amount of maintence! But are fun and can knock down some decent mpq. I used to get around 31-32 averaging almost 90mph when I was going 3 hours between home and college.

Dream project car, in a perfect world would be a mint condition 1997 Camaro SS. Turbo, of course.

Mostly because my dad would be helping me, he very familiar with the LT1.
He has actually taken one apart and put it back together before with a buddy.

Though.. just speaking hypothetically here. I dont know much about the camaros anyhow.

Either a LT1 or LS1 boosted would probably be intense lol

That's a sweet plan man, I love my B Series trucks, I've had 8 of em, but now I have a 72 Datsun 620 bullet side to work on, just no money to do so right now. I used to be really active on the bscene though

my friend has tried so many times to sell me his b-series mazda. i would but he put a racing rear in it with a small v8 i forget what size. if it was sitting stock i would jump on it. but he took it in the wrong direction of what id wanna do with it.

First, I found this thread because a part of the following was in someone's sig;

Your car is a (if my memory serves me correctly) "Sport Appearance Package" car;
Essentially;
  1. Brass at GM decided that the 2.4L cars shouldn't be called 'Super Sports' ~ so the name was changed for the 2008 model year to 'Sport' - it was an exact carry over from the 2006-2007 SS-2.4L.
  2. After the 2.4L engine was discontinued in the Cobalt, the 'Sport' package was continued, albeit in a bit of a watered down form.
  3. The "Sport Appearance Package" is an option package on the LT2 which is basically an extension of the 2008 model year 'Sport' (same interior, same wheels, same sound system, same bumpers as the 'Sport' model).

I didn't realize that 2009-2010 sport appearance cars didn't receive the rear discs ~ so that's news to me.

Fun fact - The Sport Appearance Package option package was called 'Team Canada Edition' for the Canadian market ~ probably because GM was a sponsor of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, and traditionally compacts sell better in Canada...

SHO's are nice cars ~ but the last run in I had with one in my personal 'project car' was a time when one of my passengers noticed the car first, then I turned my head to see the guy obviously power shifting...
(it was an early manual SHO, that hte guy had obviously had some fun with)

so without down shifting, I tromped on it, and walked away as though he was standing still

lesson to be learnt;
Pick your battles.
