Angry Cobalt Build Quality????

Just looking from some comments on the build quality issue.

A person I know bought a new '06 Cobalt SS (2.4L) loaded and had the car in the shop for a list of problems today. Door trim was loose, sunroof trim, black plastic inserts on inside of trunk lid fall out all the time, crappy stretched seat leather, and numerous other little silly things that should not be happening on a brand new, month old car!!!

I have seen some of these problems before on the site, including what seems to me like way to many defects with the factory paint jobs!!!! I drive a 1992 Lumina Z34, and it sounds like the Cobalt's biuld quality is no better than the GM's of the 90's. Am I waisting my money spending $30,000+ Cnd. on this car if the biuld quality is that horrible???? I don't want a Lemon!!!

What sort of problems have you owners had with your car???

(I'm waiting for a '06 Cobalt SS Supercharged, NOT a 2.4L SS by the way)

I voted good..... Ive had mine a couple months now... 4200 miles... So far no major problems... My passenger door leather is peeling around the handle but Im told GM is aware of it and working on a fix... I had the car go into limp mode 1 time while I was racing for no obvious reason... Thats about it really... Oh ya the shifter knob seems to be coming loose on mine... 2 of the 3 problems I listed are minor interior problems...
To me stuff like that doesnt really count... I work on Benzs and we have the same types of things... As every manufacturer does... especially on first model years...
As far as the powertrain and performance its EXCELLENT.... Im very happy with the car... Just need more speed

Oh ya... Ive seen posts from people bagging on the paint on these... I will agree it appears to be thin and chips pretty easily... But I would say its comparable to most domestic cars... I bunch of people have complained about orange peel.... Mine has slight orange peel... but I went and looked at a load of new CLS, CL, and S class benzs.... They look about the same to me...

Overall though I love this car.... I would recommend it to anyone..

I have had mine(06 2.4L loaded) for a week and a half, the plastic peices that cover the taillights (in trunk) fall off, and I have noticed the orange peel on my yellow paint, and the leather is starting to stretch(after 1.5 wks). Overall I love my car for the price 25k canadian with the taxes and it's loaded. All the stuff mentioned is under warranty and can be fixed...great car..great price. Hey any other girls out there with cobalts from Ontario, Can?

Does anyone have a piture of this "orange peel" in the paint? I do not understand what you mean, as I have never seen a bad paint job. Are they just applying it to thin? I am just confused and need clarification.

as far as i can see, besides a few minor problems, the cobalt is an awesome car. they just have to get the bugs worked out.

Thanks. Couldn't fix the poll! Guess I need to learn the proper spelling of some words! You just get into bad habits, and eventually it looks right to you!

i have a black 2006 cobalt 2.4. the black paint scratches like you wouldn't believe, i ran a clay bar over the entire car, used a porter cable to buff out the scratches that i had after 2 car washes one me and one the dealer who put some nice scratches into it, then put some wolfgang paint sealant on and it appears to be much more resistant to the scratches my gf put into it by running her hand over the car!. my rear deck lid has horrible orange peel like its nasty, i work at paint shop and rarely see anything this bad. my leather seats look all nasty after 2 weeks. had the car in already for repairs as there was a horrible rattle after 20km, apparently the gas tank became loose. the sunroof slider was broken from the factory and had to be fixed. i'm not upset with the car but i would say there are a number of problems, i love the motor though going from a mustang to this wasn't a hard step and i love the mp3 cd player/sub... car looks pretty sexy, and it handles and drives nicely. i'd lease it again knowing all that i do, i just hope they replace my leather seats.
