Cobalt Production Numbers

Sorry if this is a repost...

A few people have asked what the Cobalt production numbers are. I found this on Wikipedia -- they list the 2005 to 2007 Cobalt production numbers on their site:

Model Year Sales
2005 212,667
2006 211,450
2007 200,620

Autozone updated percentages of Engines in the Cobalt on their website :

2005 2.0S 2% (~4253)

2006 2.0S 3% (~6343)
2006 2.4L 5% (~10572)

2007 2.0S 2% (~4012)
2007 2.4L 2% (~4012)

2008 2.4L 7% (production?)
2008 2.0T doesn't register a percentage

Remember, the numbers for the SS models I have posted are based on the model percentages based on engine size that the Autozone website displays.

Except for the fact that there were SC's in 05 and no 2.4's... I'm almost positive for 2006 and 2007 there would be more 2.4's than SC's sold. They are everywhere. Must just be in Canada where SC's were closer to $30k but we've seen numbers time and time again without any verification.

I just posted the Production numbers and gave an idea of the SS numbers based on the Autozone site's percentages. Around my neck of the woods more SS/SCs sold then did SS/NAs -- and both of those numbers are in the low single digits for 2006 and 2007 combined!

In my city of 80,000 - no more than 20 SS/SC's... that is possibly an overestimation. Countless G5 GT's and SS/NA's.

1) Marketing/brand recognition
2) Styling (let's face it, the SS/SC is styled better and people are less likely to buy a performance version of the quad coupe; they probably lost some sales because of their gay ass instruments above the radio stack)
3) Waaay more Chevy dealers than Saturn

Too bad it doesn't go in to single color production numbers.

IMO it's due to the limited amount of advertising...I didn't know about the IRL until I visited CSS.net...and I didn't know about the Cobalt until I happened to rent one in early 2006.

Seriously, how many IRL commercials/advertisements were there?

Well good for your city. In my area i've seen at least 25 SS/SC's within a 50 mile radius.....and maybe 10 2.4SS's tops.

I'm one of 3 2.4SS's i've ever seen at the VA meets.....been to 5 now.....hosted 4 of the 5 meets. Each meet brought between 10 (lowest) and 40 (highest) cars. Some meets were in southern VA (VA Beach.....some in central VA (Richmond)....and the rest in Northern VA. So naturally, every meet didn't bring the same cars/owners. And like I said.....5 meets......3 entirely differen't areas.....probally around 50 Cobalts total....and only 3 2.4SS's. Very few 2.2s also.....almost all SS/SCs.

2.4 owners are less likely to come to meets because the majority are autos and people that just bought it for a bit more power/the options... no way it's that biased.

...and I was in Dallas in July for a few days saw a couple 2.4's and no SC's, in NY later in the month same thing.

In my area there are way more 2.4's SS's than ss/sc's . SS/NA's were more practical due to the Automatic and lower price /insurance, thats why i'd be surprised if they sold/made... less of them than SC's. But hey it's GM so you never know lol.

I see more G5 GT's than SS/NA's thou. By far. Four door SS/NA's are rare around here, i think i've see 2 in the last few years.

That's more along the lines of what I'd expect.

That is very odd for an American city because there were no 2006 G5's...

Around here, no dealerships even kept 2.4SS's on their lots. They typically had between 5-10 2.2's abd usually around 3-4 SS/SC's. In fact, when I went to order my '07 2.4SS in August '06, the dealership was unaware of the car's existence.....i'm not even kidding. I...the consumer....literally had to explain to the entire dealership....that a NON-supecharged SS Cobalt even existed. The 2.4SS had been on sale since what....late '05....and here I was halfway into '06 ordering an '07 model....and they had never even sold one before. They kept trying to persuade me to buy the '06 Victory Red SS/SC that was in the their showroom...but I was determined to get a 2.4SS....even from a dumb dealership that had never even heard of one, lol. Sad they never even took the time to read their own brochures.....

So yeah, I guess it varies by area. I will agree that 2.4SS's/Sports probally have a smaller "enthusiast" following, hence their smaller numbers at meets, but even so, out here, 2.2's and SS/SC's dominate. I will say that dealerships out here took notice the the '08 Sports though. I guess b/c its no longer "confusing" to the retarded dealerships out here having two SS models, the "Sport" model seems to be taking off out this way.

And as for G5 GTs, I see more of those than 2.4SS's for sure. And four door SS's.....i've seen a few out my way. Never had one come to a meet though. And i've yet to see an SS/TC sedan out here.

Well, everything does well out here. I live like less than an hour from DC and fight traffic on some of the busiest highways in the country (I-66, I-95 plus all the capitol beltways) so I see a bazillion cars a day on my commute. Anything ranging from Kias.....all the way up to me sitting bumper to bumper with Maserattis, Ferarris, Lambos....even see a few Continental GT's out my way. Out here its a madhouse. So many rich people....so many middle class....and so many poor people. Makes for a very diverse combination of cars I see on the highways and interstates out here.

How's this for an example...In my city the last 2 days driving to the stores, restaurants and to friends houses I didn't see a Cobalt or G5 -- 2 or 4 door model -- and I look!

I know. What I'm saying is there were no 2006 G5's sold in the United States but there were SS/NA, so you would think SS/NA would at least slightly outnumber G5 GT's... three model years of sales for the SS and two for the GT... but I guess not for both you and the other guy.

I know, bumping old post but kinda interesting stuff...

I wish someone could get us a full breakdown of Cobalt sales broken down by engine and body type. I'd love to find out just how rare the '09 SS Sedans are (yes, I'm obviously a little biased...). But really I think we'd all find the full breakdown interesting.
