Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum. However, I find it quite helpful with lots and lots of information. I'm planning to buy a SC Cobalt ss. But I'm concerned with how reliable the car is. I read many reviews all over the Internet. Some are happy and some aren't. I really like the car but I DONT want any headache in the future. What I'm almost going to buy is a 2006 SC one with 32K miles on it. The car doesn't look abused. One more thing I moved to Canada recently and every one knows how it gets here in winter. Up to -22 F. So, I would really appreciate your input. Should I buy it or should I look for another car?

 

The SC is just added stress. If you are looking for a reliable car then the cobalt ss is not for you. IF your looking for a fun quick car then get the ss. As for the winter I ran my car on winter tires last season and it was fine. It gets a bit colder than that here

 

SS/TC = more reliability

 

i feel like once a week, someone is complaing about having to go back to the dealership for some type of problems.

 

Never had any problems with mine. Snow tires are a must though in the winter.

The SS/SC isnt a bad reliable car. Its how well its maintained to show its reliability. If the car is abused and no maintenance done properly, yes it will be reliable. Also with young kids that don't know how to drive or maintain a FI car. YES you'll get all the tards on CSS saying **** is broke. They also do hack ass mods to theirs.

If you keep the car stock, and it is checked out by a mechanic to be a sound car. Yes it will work great for you. Get a new battery or check to make sure the battery is newer and has good amp numbers to start in winter and you will be fine. Maybe check out a block heater or the oil pan heater (I have one for my escape, works great).

 

I've never had any mechanical problems with either the LT I owned or my TC. Usually the more stock your car is the more reliable it's gonna be.

Reliability is in the hands of the owner. I don't beat the living **** out of mine but I'm not afraid to give it gas when I take it out. Do regular maintenance and you're fine mines been for 60k..

 

Mine has almost 90k on it and its been good to me so far. havent had any problems yet. As long as you maintain the car it will be pretty reliable. If you do any mods make sure you go to a guy who knows what the hell they are doing. I went to a guy who didnt and i was on the forum a couple times a month posting **** about misfires and finally found somebody else who fixed me up. Just get snow tires as well

 

The SC I have is pretty good. I know the guy that owned it before me and he is a young guy. He has raced it a few times but has also kept everything in tip top shape. It's a smooth ride for the most part but I live in Alabama so the roads here suck. I have found that any car can be good or a POS. As stated before it's all about how well you take care of your car and the abuse you put it threw.

 

 

Turbo cars are inherently less reliable. As long as you know what you are doing when modifing the SS/SC, the car is very reliable. Engine wise. All Cobalts have silly problems like switches falling off or broke power windows. Who ever said the LNF is more reliable is obviously the confused person!

the ss/sc is very reliable. Most people that have problems have modded ss/sc's and the ss/sc is more reliable than the ss/tc by far. If your concerned about reliability don't mod it and it should be great to you.

 

Not too bad with that low of miles.

 

As long as you maintain it properly, it's fine. Obviously the non-boosted versions (The LE5) of the SS/Sport are going to be generally more reliable than the SC or TC versions, but the SS/SC and SS/TC don't suffer much in the way of major issues when stock. The SS/TC has more issues relating to the charge piping, but that's easily fixed. One of the other SS/TC issues I've been seeing is the car going into limp mode or bleeding off a ton of boost, but you're not looking into the SS/TC though.

 

ive never had a problem with my redline and it is the same engine as the ss/sc, as long as u maintain it and dont drive like u stole it every single time u drive it ur fine. only time i beat on it is a race or sometimes a onramp, other than than i shift at 3000.
