They're starting to hit the lots now, and they'll probably be more common by August

exactly, I see no reason why they wouldnt be. Now they may sell fast and not stay on lots though. So you may still have to order one before if demand is still strong. But there is no way to predict that. It also depends on the area that you are buying in and I'm not familar with the markets anywhere but where I live.

Ebay

Buy one from ebay

ebay cobalt auction

I'm in tough situation right now. I am buying a new car within the next month, and the options are too damn close to call. str-4/cobalt ss/sc/wrx damn these competing companies.

my question is; since there have been several sold already where the hell are the dyno and 1/4 mile times? I'm really interesting in the 60' time too.

Only person on this site even has the car, and he just got it a few days ago.

My dealer offered to order one and hold it for me. When it came in I could go for a test drive and decide. Try arrange something similar, and then you are safe.

I sure hope the Cobalt SS S/C will be avalible to purchase by august. The only issue I see is you are shopping for a model that is pretty popular, so far from what I have seen. If you are trying to get a popular model at the end of a model year (august is the end of a model year) you will probably have some trouble locating a car still for sale. When I got my Xtreme a few Augusts ago I had a heck of a time finding one a I wanted and are a much more plentify car than the Cobalt SS S/C is.

Will you have trouble getting a regular cobalt in August? I highly doubt it.

I think most of us are ready to jump on a Cobalt SS S/C either when they come into the dealers as retail allocations or you have pre ordered and are waiting for it to arrive. Going to have to be quick on the draw to get a 2005 SS S/C. I think GM will probably have things worked out a lot by 2006.

Yeah you will but your going to have to wait a month or 2. Your going to have to make up your mind of what is best for you. I agree with Zinner, you probably should see what your local dealership will allow you to do. You never know they may let you order one and test drive it and decide if you want it.

I think most dealers will place the order for you without much hassle. If they get the SS S/C and you decide you don't want it for whatever reason it's gonna be an easy car to move off the lot. Maybe if you ordered a pink SS S/C with orange buckets they might make you put down some deposit.

lol actually my friend wanted to order like a pink jeep or something. i dont know about talking to my dealers, i once asked about the cobalts and he said that they were going to go for around "26,000 easy". i live in midland, texas and so i figure i'll just go to a bigger town like san antonio or dallas or austin, whichever has the best selection at the right price.

Most dealerships here in Indiana are only ordering them with a non refundable deposit. If you back out you loose your deposit.

That's how most dealers "order" vehicles.

That's also the difference between a "Deposit" and a "Down Payment." If you back out, a "deposit" is non-refundable, a "down-payment" must be returned if there is no purchase.

Most dealers probably won't want to make a big fuss about it , but some will.

Yeah thats how I have always understood it. I was also surprised of how much the deposit is back when I bought my Saturn in 2001 which was a special edition color. I had to put down 100$ deposit. This time it was $500. But it doesnt really matter I'm going to put more than that in my down payment when it comes in.

I didn't pay a down payment or deposit. I don't know how a dealer could require a deposit on a car they can't promise delivery on or can give me a price/payment .
