Coolant temp.

in my previous car, a '03 malibu, the coolant temperature was indicated on a gauge so i could tell when the car was getting hotter or cooler or if it reached into the red danger zone. now that the coolant temp is indicated in the DIC, how do i know what temp. is too hot?

The pop of the head gasket is a good indicator usually though your dummy light in the center will come on with a gauge with some swiggly lines and a thermomitor(however it's spelled).
