Coupe+Baby Seat=No Leg Room!

Ok so I had my first born child on wednesday morning. Travis was born at 7:51am and he weighed 8.5 pounds and was 20 inches long. I am so excited! So Friday rolled around and it was time to take him home and I had the slowbalt there. It is a coupe so I knew getting the car seat into the back was going to be a pain. Well what I didn't plan on was the fact that there wasn't going to enough room for the baby seat! I Frist tried to put him behind my seat and the nurse said that with the slant of the seat that it was throwing him to far back. That ment that he had to be put into the level center of the back seat. So we put him there and my wife sat next to him behind the passenger seat and then I put my seat all the way back untill it hit the baby seat. then I got in and I have like no room for my legs and the seatback is straight up! The no leg room is a big problem because it's a 5 speed, I need to be able to move my legs freely. So we are going to give it a month and see how much he is in my car and if it is too much the cobalt is going bye bye! Here is my chance to get back into a silverado, I miss my truck sooo much! Anyway, end of rant.

Congrats on the baby! The car seat problem is handy to know. I am 5-8, my husband is 6-4 & if we do decide on kids, well we know where the Cobalt would go. For sale.

The bad thing is I JUST put rims on it. If I sell it outright the rims will go with it but if I trade it in I will be looking to sell them.

Congrats on your son ! That whole baby seat thing feels like another lifetime ago for me,but the seat may fit different when it is time to change direction of the seat. I do not remember the age/weight that you switch them to forward facing ( I think it is a year).
Good Luck

Congratulations on your son!!! Glad he came off the fetal assembly line in a-ok shape!!!
On the car seat thing, yup... some friends of mine wanted a Cobalt, but had to opt into a Malibu because they just didn't fit well. As Joe was a tall guy and needed the seat all the way back to drive, goodbye Cobalt, hello Malibu.

Congrats again and best wishes!!

Scott

yup rear facing seats are a pain in the ass, and yes it is 1 year before you can face them forward. Make sure you take your car seat if you need to buy a new car, we have found that rear facing seats dont fit in most of the cars out there. there are a few car seats that are smaller than others so you might look into that as well, we picked up a car seat that had a lower back to fit better.

Congrats on the son!! I have a 1 1/2 yr old son and another due in a couple months. At 1 year you can turn the car seat around. Once you do the car is fine. I keep the car seat on the passenger side. It's easier to get him in and out and I can see what he's doing if I look into the back seat. Good luck!

Oh bah with all these parents freaking out about having everything perfect for their kids. We didn't have all these super safety devices or anything growing up... toddler seats... airbags... cabinet locks... if we got hurt... we got over it. And we all turned out fine. Put the child seat behind one of the seats... forget about the middle. If it wasn't safe to strap the child seat there... the govt. wouldn't allow chevy to make it.

I have no problem with putting the seat behind the passenger, but my wife will when she has to sit up front! Plus it is just a good excuse to get another truck!

I think it is because right now he is rear facing so that juts the back of the thing out right into the front seats.

rear facing takes up a lot of room. Thats why i got a 4 door ss. If you find you dont have to drive that car to truck the whole family then you could just have the baby seat on the passenger side. BTW you can go to the local fire house and they can help you make sure the seat is in safely, the nurse at the hospital cant help by law but a firemen or police officer can help and you might find that with there help you can make it work.

Congats on the kid man!
I can see your point on this.
If you de get riv of the car look in to the safty stats from the natinal INS foundation on fullsize trucks and SUVS and if you still buy one and put your kid in it Ill be shocked.
I used to love trucks till I wrecked one and did some looking in to this my self.
Good luck in what ever you decid man.
