cranking in neutral?

I realize this sounds like a stupid question. When your 5 speed ss sc is in neutral is it supposed to crank without pushing the clutch in? This was bypassed for a remote start for so many years now that ive had it removed I cant remember what it used to do before I got it. Now It wont crank in neutral without pressing the clutch and im hoping thats the way they are supposed to be

Well **** I learned something. All of my other cars, didn't do that. They have a neutral safety switch.

The Jeep Wrangler "YJ"s do not,

Also, even new Jeep Wrangler JKs, if you're in 4Lo you do not have to push clutch to start.

Mine doesn't require the clutch to start from neutral. But my safety switch broke a couple years ago and I just never gave it much thought to replace it.
