There is no damage under neath the car.. It's been inspected and such.. I have had everything looked over..

So I decided not to go through the insurance.. I am a 5 star driver (6 star in 1 yr).. Which gives me better rates and also 6 star allows me to take a option that ur first accident doesnt count as your fault..

Also.. I don't want to live with 10-20 years of rate hikes because of it.. It can cause me to spend $100 or more a month extra because of this.. They will just screw me..

So I figure I mid as well be out the $3000 (or more) out of my pocket.. Then to put alot more then $3000 (and a lost good reputation of driving) into the insurances hands.. My parents are helping me out by paying half..

So for now I am getting the mechanical stuff fixed.. Then when the spring comes I will get the new parts and have them painted and put on. I can get the parts at GM cost rather then bodyshop price..

Here is the bill basically right now with just mechanical stuff..

$249 (Canadian) for the Hub Bearing
$107 (to install that part...1hr)
$250 (for control arm, this may not be bent and they may beable to align the car.. if not then I need the part)
$107 (to do the install 1 hr)
Alignment $100

So I am at about $934 with taxes... So it's a pretty price.. But I am hopnh they will beable to deal with the control arm..

Like I said.. I personally would be better of out of the money in my pocket.. Rather then having a bad record with the insurance company (going from 5 star to 0)... And also pay insurance premiums for the next 10 yrs or more of my life..

Update (I just got a call from dealer)

Left Side (Drivers) (didnt think anything got damaged)

Control Arm
Drive Shaft Boot

Right Side (passenger)

Steering Knuckle
Hub Bearing

So now the bill has jumped from $750.. To $1340....

I feel that I made the right choice on not going to my insurance for the money... I know what state the car is in (physically and personally)... I know lot of very reuputable bodyshops that will do a cheaper job.. I can get my Dad's GM discount on the parts for eveything.. And I know that I don't wanna be giving the insurance company thousands of dollars more in the long run.. Then giving the dealer $3000 to fix the whole car. So that once that $3000 is paid... There is no more.. With insurance.. There will always be more..

still think it's cheaper then going thru insurance? I mean, pay the deductible and it get it fixed. No sense in beating your wallet up because of it.

Ohh ya it's for sure cheaper doing it this way.. I am not sure how your insurance stuff works.. But in , if you claim with the insurance company and they pay for the damage.. Your rates can go as much as double the amount per year.. And it can be like that for years. I mean 8,10,12 yrs etc... I know people have had inurance messed up for 8 years or more because of claims. Plus like I said.. It also takes away my 5 stay rating.. Cause when I am at 6.. My insurance will go lower and I also get a free accident on them so to speak...

I am not looking at this from the approach that I am worried about spending the money.. I'd rather pay more now.. Then even more over the course of years.. And loosing alot more money and my driving record would be screwed for a long time.. Because I am only paying half.. My parents are taking the other half. So int he end.. I am only really out $1500 or so..
