Dealership Parts Prices.

Has anyone ever wondered why dealerships price departments charge WAY more then other places for the same part.

Example: LSJ IC Pump: Dealership = $510 ZZP = $107

You'd think that if Chevy is hurting for money, they would price their parts more competitivly. Maybe they are just relying on people thinking that the only place to get correct, or approved parts is from the dealership.

OEM will never compete with aftermarket. And the dealership IS the only place to get "approved" parts if a warranty issue were to ever come up. i.e. If your $100 ZZP IC Pump fails, the dealership isn't going to fix the aftermath without charging you a pretty penny.

Well if your still under warranty, I would think the pump would be covered also.

IMO I think they are pricing on the fact, that people bring there car in for service, because they dont know whats wrong or how to fix it. So if you want your car back working you are going to pay for the parts and labor. Not to mention the dealer only psrts that you cant get anywhere else.

e.g Just paid $90 and change CAD for a timing chain tensioner. I know CED sells it for $40 but I needed it right away. Another example of insane pricing was when I went to the dealer to see about o-rings for the laminova cores. Now I know im going to be over paying but it was more convenient to get them at the dealer, until I found out they wanted $50 for one o-ring. Im sure the guy made a mistake but he assured me that was the price. Needless to say I didnt buy them, and I ended up getting them for $2 for 10.

Yeah I've never paid retail for a dealer part, either. I always get my parts at cost, which can be close to half off.

parts at the deaaler are more because of overhead..insurance,workmans comp, property taxes, taxes, and so on...if they did not charge the extra so too speak they would go out of buis..

I paid $650 ($600 after giving my rim to them that they were replacing because I bent it) for a new SS/TC rim and $270 for a rear hub. Let's not even talk about the labor hours. I have yet to find a site that sells the SS/TC rim for a reasonable price. Hell, my mother's Mercedes E350 18" rear rim (front and rear rims are different sizes ) cost less than my SS/TC rim and they are a lot nicer.

Well, I didn't know about that the site when this happened and I didn't want to wait, so I just bit the bullet and got it from the dealer. Regardless, $400 stills seems steep for an OEM rim even after going through another site.
