Hey whats the difference between a 2.2L and a 2.4L by looking at the motor?? do they look exactly alike from look under the hood??

on an 08 cobalt btw... i looked at a 08 cobalt LT motor today, and it looked very simaler to my 08 sport motor... i mean it's all mostly covered up so my question is are they the same cover

i'll take that as a theyre is no difference?.. lol

yes they have the same cover, but there is a 20 something HP drop

visually, they're pretty similar these days...

the engine and bay setup is very similar, i would assume the block is maybe a tad bigger to fit the extra .2l?

 

same block. doesnt it say the displacment on the valve cover somewhere?
if not...then there really isnt a way to tell at a glance

 

valve cover has vvt on the 2.4 but thats all i can think off....oo and i'm not sure if the 2.2's have the cam sensors outa the valve cover or not but the 2.4 does....but i think the new lap has vvt as well so i dunno

 

The 2.2L valve cover has no markings on it but the 2.4L valve cover has Ecotec VVT on the front side. Of course this is only visible if you remove all that useless plastic crap they put on there.

 

right, but the new 2.2 LAP also has VVT, and probably also has VVT written on the valce cover

 

Probably but I haven't taken a gander under the hood of the really new stuff, I'm just going by what I've previously noted.
