Do you agree the cobalt is underated?
haha tru that scrap em all and give em all a different name would definitely be proper. and yeah that is what most sentra owners think that we are rated at the flywheel so we really only dyno like 180 or so when they couldnt be more wrong. its okay their ignorance is more pleasure for me when i prove that my SS has a little more than that 180. And once again leaving the world in total shock!
Hey there everyone, I have a 2006 ss and i feel that the cobalt is overlooked as a solid street racing car. I have smashed several of my friends on different occassions. I have beat countless civics and lancers and neons and even an srt-4 for good measure. I just wish the cobalt would get some respect, becaue everyone I talk to thinks its a weak ass car. I think everyone without a cobalt should give it some well-deserved respect!
A quote from car and driver paraphrased
"The Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged is one of the best kept secrets in the marketplace today."
The car is already putting people in there places with the stock blower. Remember, the SRT-4 was quick, but only really started to own pretty much everything when turbo upgrades were made available.
In a matter of days, the tag blower swap will be available. Then the Cobalt name will be really made.

Yeah it's underrated I suppose and that's a good thing. I means less teenagers with crappy cars trying to race us. Hell even one of the techs at my dealership was ragging on me. He's a total ******* though and I put him and his late 90s Camaro RS (yeah V6 power 4 life) with exhaust in it's place.
Street racing is dumb by the way.

Ahem, aren't we forgetting something here??
This thread is not about which Cobalt is better duh this is about Do you think the Cobalt is under rated?? Please don't start saying, oh the S/C is this and that over the N/A SS, or the 2.2L is not that, yada yada yada.. We all own Cobalts so just leave it at that! I've had some people with S/C's show me some respect with my 2.4L, and I've given some respect to some 2.2L guys..
This is not about which Cobalt is better! There all great in there own little way and all under rated!! Its Gm's fault for giving everything that they put out the SS badge, so write to them and complain.. The Cobalt has been out for what, 3-4 yrs?? Yes we get people saying, oh your just driving a Cavy, I just tell them you don't know much do you!!
Its not even close to the Cavilier.. I'm rambling here now but ya the Cobalt is under rated, all 3 motors are!!! But we shut up those fools that don't know enough about our cars after we leave them behind
Anyways I may have pissed in someones cornflakes with my comment here so I'll leave it at that

Well my thinking is that kids don't even look my way because they think it's a waste of time. The only people I get wanting to race me are V8 guys, probably with small penises trying to prove something to themselves. Then they get the disapointment of having me hang with them.
Every time I hear that the Cobalt is just a rebadged Cavalier, I want to ask Why? They have nothing in common; are you saying that just because they are built at the same plant and replaced the Cavalier in the Chevy lineup? By the same line of reasoning, maybe we should say the Cavalier is just a rebadged Vega.
Maybe I should change my signature to say 2006 Vega GT.
I think the Cobalt ss/sc is especially under rated because even GM doesn't publish Peak HP and TQ numbers for it. Every other sport compact on the market has the numbers for peak output published. Every stock ss/sc ive ever heard of gets at least 210hp at the wheels when dynoed. And with the new SAE certification, many cars have had to restate their power and gas milage to pass, but the ss/sc didn't have to change anything. All becase GM likes to underrate thir performance cars from the begining.

I think that the Cobalt is an under dog...not underated. It is what it is...I think that the owners try to over rate them. I mean, seriously, not trying to dog the SS/SC cause I like the car...decent car for 20 grand or so, sub 200 HP or whatever car but that's about it.
I seriously get tired of people when they try to compare them to SRT-4s or any other car in the market (sorry to say this guys) that do not obviously compare...this is purely from a "project car" build up point of view, not in stock form, which is how most people try to compare to them.
So underated, nope.
I think this goes with ever car class though (atleast in the tuner world). Every car owner feels like they are under dogs in some huge dog pound of cars and they throw around the word "potential" like it means anything. If you're coming from a perspective of building a performance vehicle, potential is from how much money you have in your pocket and/or the brain cells you have in your head.
Sure, you guys have potential but I think only a handful of owners are really doing anything more than talking about what they are going to do.
Wasn't trying to go off topic or anything but it's all hand and hand with the original question. Some of you guys might not like what i have to say...oh well. To each is own.
EDIT: now the redline, that car is in a league above

I have a LS Sport cavalier with the 2.2 ecotec and i've killed a bunch of cars that underestimated the power this motor really has. Now i have my SS/SC and whatever i couldnt take out with my cavalier my SS does the job. I have to agree on the underestimation that is tagged along with our car. I love my SS/SC and there is now way that it is a beefed up cavalier. Their arent too many Cobalts out here where i'm at and i've turned so many heads when i took out some GT Stangs cause it seems to be what everyone drives out here. Anyways I love my cobalt!

I kinda agree wit you but people dont even see this car in the same league as the srt4 but it isnt much slower. People dont think this car can keep up with the 350zs and G35s but it does because its a pretty light car with a lotta hp and tq for a 4 cylinder. The cobalts are seen as crappy domestic cars and there arent any aftermarket turbos or superchargers yet, but theyl be here soon

Underdogs are typically underestimated by people (in this case, people think you're slow)
Underated means typically that you're rated at a certain performance offically but you're really higher.
Go find a lotus.
