DRL's are mandatory in Canada, so if the engine is running.......they are too (auto or not).
I run the fogs all the time aswell...........hey, the way people drive these days I'd put a cop stack and an f'ing siren on it if I could get away with it.

I think they look good and is one of the features that seperates what this car looks like coming down the road compared to other cars.

I just leave them on auto all the time. Don't really care how the car looks, but like the fact that they make me more visible to people who otherwise wouldn't know I was there.

Am I the only one who gets pissed off at people who use their fogs when there's no good reason to? That whole "more light means I can see further" argument is bull, if the fogs are aimed properly they don't improve your visibility one bit. All they do is blind other drivers so they can't see anything. It's especially annoying on trucks because then they are aimed straight into my eyes. They are only for use during periods of extremely low visibility, such as heavy snow or fog (thus their name).

Actually as you said if they are aimed properly they will not let you see further. If aimed properly they will also NOT blind the drivers ahead because they are aimed down.

I honestly can say I have never been "blinded" by fog lights only by headlights.

Edit: Plus nobody said they could see further with fogs, they said they can see better, and it's true, it helps light the roadway in front of you.

I kinda wanted to do that, but instead wired my fogs into the Parking lamps... I bought aftermarket, but I'm sure that if you don't mind, you could get some quick connectors and just run the positive wire for the fogs to your parking light fuse, and put a quick connector on the stock wire to the switch and that way if you have any problems just plug it back in and hide that wire, dealer shouldn't worry too much unless they are looking real good.

DRLs are mandatory in Canada, but i pulled the fuse to run them. I have HID lows, and don't run them in the day.

open hood, fuse box, remove DRL fuse.. done! then when you get in your car, hit the fog light button to turn on your parking lights front and back, along with your fogs..

the only difference in Canada is that even at night, if you switch the stalk to the "off" position, the lights dont shut off..

i had a loaner car from the states (Malibu, 07), and when i clicked the stalk to "off", the lights shut off.. even while driving.. that feature I like cause when i pull into my driveway I don't like to blind all the neighbours..

You can blame that on your laws. Canada is also who forced DRL on the states.

I admit, cars aren't as bad as the trucks, but you're still increasing the total amount of light hitting other driver's eyes, and you're also increasing the total area of vision affected. One thing you learn flying is just how much damage light can do to your ability to see at night. They don't feel like they are blinding because they aren't as intense, but they are just as bad as leaving the brights on.

Also, they do light up the road a little better, but the only area affected is so close to the front of your car that you can't react in time to avoid any object lit up by the fogs anyway, so it's pointless. In addition, by increasing the total amount of light bouncing back into your eyes from the area just in front of the car, you are forcing your eyes to adjust to that area and reducing your ability to see objects way in front of you.

So you are effectively also blinding yourself by using them. I'd explain more clearly and in more detail, but I've got to leave for work.

I have an '07 so my DRL's are the headlights. I pulled the DRL fuse. I've read numerous articles saying how DRL's have no effect on safety during the day and I just think it's unattractive.

Also, here's an interesting site: http://www.lightsout.org/

No need to explain, it's common sense and I see what you're saying. But, there's not really any need to go into that deep. I see a little better with my fogs on if it's a really dark street, and since I'm always driving around the city going about 25-30mph I actually could react quick enough to avoid a pothole or something.
