Hmm.. Weird both the inside and outside handle don't work to open it? Otherwise I'd say get inside hold the handle open and put a good shoulder into it. if that doesn't work have someone outside trying to open while you try to press it open with your legs or however you can put the most force on it. Thats pretty much what we try to do first when a car comes into shop thats been slammed in the door, just be careful if you try kicking it open that you're kicking where it's sturdy.

^^ Pretty much agree. Worst case you'll need to get another locking mechanism from a Cobalt in a junk yard. Eat your Wheaties and put a shoulder into it.

You know I'm trying hard to keep liking my Cobalt but reading all these threads about so many different problems others are having with their car's makes me wonder if it's worth keeping, now it's a door won't open

you want to learn how to work on cars? keep it, if not get rid of it. My car has been nothing but problems since I bought it. Definately a love hate relationship, but when I love her man do I love her, although she does whine alot

You have to realize that this site has 46 THOUSAND members, a high concentration of Cobalt owners, many of whom are just kids and don't even know how to work a wrench. If you think that the number of problems posted in here are bad, I suggest you take a look at other car-specific forums with a comparable number of members. The Cobalt boards are NOTHING compared to some of the stuff on the Jeep Forums, for one.

What was the temperature outside when this happened? It could be that the seal froze to the door frame a little.

I had this happen to me a little while ago when it rained and then the temperature dropped below freezing overnight. Once the car warmed up, the door opened ok. I just made sure that the seals were dry and I was ok.

Thanks for all the suggestions, just got home from work, took it by the chevy dealership this morning, they seemed to think someone tried to break into it, and the rod to open the door just fell off, couldn't get to it today, so im still stuck crawlin in through the passenger door. It was fairly warm day out, and i dont remember slamin it shut or anything, I also tried puttin my shoulder into it, but from what they guy at the dealership told me, it sounds like thats the problem.

Wow! Damn dude. That sucks that somebody was trying to break into your ride... But at least they think they know what the problem is, and they want to fix it!

Door stuck won’t open inside or out

im a fairly new cobalt ss owner and my drivers door stopped working inside and out. I read all the suggestions here to this problem and locking and unlocking the door many times with the key eventually opened the door but didn’t solve the problem so I removed the interior door panel and soaked all the latch parts with Liquid Wrench white lithium grease and it’s been working great ever since. Thank you to everyone here for all your suggestions and posts.

....

you may not need to take the whole door panel off. The door handle inside has a single screw holding it in. That is the point the end of the cable can pop out, or sometimes the said handle can break. Easy fix if either of those are it. May just have to put the end of the cable back in. Didnt realize this is an old post, but may help someone!

I know my 06 had this happen. Had to push on the door hard by the handle and pull the handle and it opened. Then I had to lube it up.
