Okay, bottom line here.
FnF movies all suck ass, and all have ruined the real tuning community each time they come out.
2. FWD cars CAN'T DRIFT.. And also where do you plan to do all this "drifting"? I live in FL, and I know of 0 tracks and 0 events for it here.
3: Solution. Take your Cavi, go to McDeaths, steal some plastic trays, and go wrap it around a light pole in a parking lot.

I've got to chime in here. I was always pretty sure that while any car can 'drift', it takes RWD to 'powerslide'. The use of the word 'power' implies that it's a slide initiated by large applications of power to the wheels...
FWD cars generally aren't very good at drifting for several reasons: Pretty much all FWD cars by their very nature have the majority of their weight over the front wheels which tends to cause understeer. You need to use the e-brake or be carrying a whole lot of speed to get the rear end to come out in the first place, and then because of the weight balance it usually comes back into line pretty quickly. To get a really big sustained slide you're going to be a razor's edge away from a full-on spin.
RWD cars on the other hand can essentially start a drift from zero mph. Starting off with a big nasty burnout will get you much lower cornering force available from the rear tires right from the get-go, and you can easily modulate the amount of grip you have with the throttle, something that FWD is very bad at.
Ever see those videos where guys put fast food trays under their rear tires to drift their FWD cars? That's just about what you need to do to get any sustained high-angle drifitng in a FWD car...

This is what Wikipedia had to say about FWD cars "drifting"
"There is some debate over whether or not front wheel drive (FWD) vehicles can drift. By one definition, the rear wheels slipping at a greater angle than the front wheels, they are indeed able to drift. However, most consider FWD vehicles a poor choice for drifting, as the frequent use of the emergency brake slows them down and makes them harder to control. Also, since they use their front tires for both steering and power, the car loses control after a single slide, while RWD cars can drift through consecutive corners. In this way, the definition of drifting is frequently challenged to say that FWD cars cannot "drift," only oversteer."
I must admit that I'm kind of torn now. I would have to give up my ill-begotten fantasy of drifting tight corners if I want to get a Cobalt.
:/

FWD cars can be used for drifting, I've seen it done, some of the better drifters have done it just to prove it CAN be done, but you need to be extremely good to do it, and you probably won't win many awards. :P
RWD is better, a good set of hard tires and a strong engine and away you go.
lol sry i didint mean to call you fake, i ment the kids that use the excuse of making fun of the movie and paying to get in even though they really want to see it but have to pretend not too because theyll look like "****"..
yes the movies are hallarious and fun to make fun of i just worded it wrong, we cool now? and ya the parking lot is ganna suck..... all the 16 year olds that just got their licenses,,, im walking to it lol or just downloa...um i mean renting

At any rate... my point was that I don't take them seriously because they are the farthest thing from accurate depictions of racing.
Action scene over in 10 seconds.... maybe not entertaining. But then again... I'd hate to have to watch a 30 second quarter mile at the track...

Don't feel bad, I liked the first one, I always laughed at the NOS parts, but it was still a fun flick. And only an idiot would call me a child, or a ricer. :P

1) Can the Cobalt drift? I had read somewhere that someone said the Cobalt couldn't drift well (or at all) Is this true?
2) If the Cobalt CAN drift, is it only possible with the LSD?
3) If the Cobalt CANNOT drift, is it because of the FWD?
4) If it's because of the FWD would someone please be so kind as to explain the mechanics to me? I was under the impression that as long as you created inertia that you would inevitably drift, even if only because of inertia. (Which would create the powerslide effect, even if you weren't drifting)
Basically I'm wondering about the entire process of drifting, as I only understand it at the most basic level. Momentum + change of direction = inertia, which creates a "drift" or a "powerslide"
I ask because I drift my 1990 automatic Cavalier, by simply creating inertia... I suppose one could argue that it's only a powerslide especially since my old cavvy definitely does not have an LSD.
Feel free to flame or whatever, I'm not trying to hide the fact that I don't know. I am trying to find out the answers too though, so please include those while you laugh at me.

Drifting can be done on a fwd car I have done it on my cobalt LS it does take practice and guts. Also it does take safty to do it. Of course RWD and AWD is alot better for drifting wish I had a car on the side with RWD or AWD for mainly drifting but the cobalt does work if you have the right road I have done it on a really curvy road out in the middle of nowhere so no one gets hurt but me (Just incase). I havent tried it on my Cobalt SS/Sc i have been thinking about it but I just got it..but I want to know how it will drift on the road. Ill let you know when I have done it. It will be a different because My Cobalt LS had 15 inch tires and my SC has 18's. Drifting isnt stupid it is fun and No you dont need to use your Ebrake all the time to drift I dont havent used it on the road only on parking lots. Oh yeah I also Like Inital D ^_^
