Drivers door wont open-2006 Cobalt

Drivers side door on 2006 cobalt will not open from the inside or out. Other doors open just fine. Door lock is up. How do we get the door open so we can fix what ever needs to be fixed inside the panel. Any idea on what the problem is?

Yea ur cable inside the door came off where u open the door on the inside pop that cover off and u should be able to open the door. Also try pulling the outside And inside handles at the same time might get cable enough to open

its the small clip that holds the locking mechanism halfway so the door will not open or shut properly. You have to get the panel off from the inside(you might break some clips but they are cheap at the dealer) once that is off locate your cable that operates the locking mech and take a look at the clip that holds it to the door latch mechanism. Position the clip further into the spot it is on to take up slack on the cable then try it out. I had this issue as well and ever since I re-positioned the clip it works fine.

i had the same problem on my 2006 also. it was the cable as previously mentioned. paid like 200$ for it to get fixed, mother fudgers broke the window while putting the door back together. obviously they paid for a new one, but i had to wait an extra day.

not really...just be careful. Put your seat up the whole way and once you have the clips out kind of pull the panel towards the back seat. You'll end up some minor scratches but their def fixable.

Ya mine did it when it was wet out too. Another trick is to beat on the outside of the door(careful not to dent it) around the handle and lock and sometimes it'll work.

Thanks everyone. I got the panel off, but still can't figure out how to get the door open. Is there a way to manually open the door now that the panel is off?

My 06 LT used to have this issue as well. I just cycled the lock and "jiggled" the handle to open it.

my 06 did this too, but for me it was not the cable. once i got the door panel off and had a look around inside, i found there is a spider clip on the locking mechanism, it twists up and down to lock and unlock the car, mine was stuck in the middle and the button would not move it at all, i had to manually push it down to unlock it and open the door, then replaced the door latch entirely and no issues since, good luck! and be careful when pulling out the door panel
