Isn't VTec more comparable to the 2.4L's VVT? Also, you missed an "r" in your name.

the biggest difference between Vtec and Ecotec is the compression level and torque curves. In typical American fasion the Ecotec engine has fairly high touque with a medum-medium high compression, the Vtec's tend to have much less torque but higher hp and a higher compression ratio. The Civic has a 1.8l engine producing 128 torque and 140 hp. the civic si has a 2.0 liter naturaly asperated engine producing only 139 torque and interesting 197 hp. The cobalt base has a 2.2 liter engine with 155 torque, and 145 hp. The SS/NA has a 2.4 liter VVT with 163 torque and 171 hp. I won't mention the SS/SC because i don't even consider it in the same class as even the Civic Si because well it is not NA and it has over 200 hp. But as you see the ecotec' are larger (heavery) and have more torque than there vtec counterparts. I am not honda bashing but i perfer an engine with a good amount of torque, it is what makes it fun to drive and so responsive.

I know V-tec Has Variable Valve Timing electronic Control.

Does the ECOtec have this same feature?

Ecotec is just the name of the family of motors... sorta like the K-series in Honda

V-tec as stated before has to do with valve timing. VVT-i and CVTC are two others i can think of that are similar to v-tec

ex...2.4L Ecotec has variable valve timing.

VVT changes camshaft timing. While V-Tec actually hase two separate camshaft profiles ground on one cam. Completely different.

ecotec is a trademarked name for diesel and petrol engines produced by General Motors.

vtec is a system developed by Honda to improve the combustion efficiency of its internal combustion engines throughout the RPM range.

they are totally different.

so the 2.4 is the only ecotec (in a cobalt) that has VVT? All the others are traditonal valve timing that doesn't change?

Acutally, if I'm not mistaken, Ford invented the whole VTEC technology (F1 or Indy car engine)... Honda just made it work in an everyday engine.
If I am wrong, correct me... I just remember reading it in a book (I want to say "History Of Ford Motor Company", but I'm not sure)
