Emissions test due

Emissions test due

I am going to get my emissions test done today and im wondering if i will pass i have a gutted cat that sets a check engine light evert other day or so. My question is if i cleared the code will it still pass?

You could clear the code but the code code come back and ur check engine light might not come on, I would get the codes removed, not sure how well you will do without a cat in there either :-(

They don't check for engine codes, they check to ensure that the emission checks are in place and complete. If your cat is inoperative, it will not have any record of that emission check being completed and you'll fail. You'd better hope that whoever's doing the test isn't all that bright and good luck...

Isnt the only way to check to see if a cat is operating is to check engine codes

The ECM stores information about the performance of the cat. If it isn't able to sense that the cat is working, it'll throw a flag and it will not remove that flag until there is evidence that the cat/second O2 sensor is working properly. The emissions test people look for any flags that are still raised and have not been remedied. If there's a flag present, you fail.
