Extended Warranty

I'm leasing a new cobalt SSSC and want to know if the GMPP extended warranty is a good buy. I dont' want to pay the extra 22 dollars a month for it if I dont' have it. Has anyone had to use it or think it is useful?

Whats the terms of the lease? If it's over 48 months then yes it's a solid investment. Otherwise, pocket the money, you will need it for gas the way things are going.

It's a 48 month lease. I will be driving probably 20,000 a year. I'm getting a discount so in total the warranty will cost me $920 canadian. I'm just wondering if I will ever have to repair 920 worth of my car in 4 years.

I took the extended warranty. I like to spoil myself in knowing I won't have to pay for anything
Especially with a newer model vehicle, you never know...

This is true.

I went to the GMPP website and it said "For example, if you are leasing your vehicle, the GM Protection Plan can be added to your vehicle for approximately $16 per month."

That's $768 for my lease term. Now they have offered me it for $965 with my rebates. Should I goto them saying the website for the plan says 16 a month and you are charging 21.

If your maticulous and you think you can find every little problem the car has within 3 years you shouldnt need it. I pretty much got everything done on mine. It is a good idea since it is a new lineup car. I would hate to tell you not to...

I'm going to mention the website value and see what they say. I'm prolly gonna get the warranty just because this is my first new car and it is better to be safe then sorry.

I just think maybe because I got a bunch of rebates they are jacking up the warranty price to bring me back to the original price per month.

I was originally at 427 per month I believe and with my discounts I had it to 388/mth with 2 months free. So with warranty it goes up to 415 or so.

It does not include the clutch disc the warranty

EDIT: Just got this from sample warranty page:

415 is what I pay with no extended warantee.

I would. But don't forget it says "approx. $16/mth".

I'm paying $406/mth with the extended warranty

edit: I think I'm going to add on the extra mileage too. I didn't realize I'd love driving it so much!

Yea...I'm just gonna say to them I will take the warranty if my monthy rate is $405. If not I will just not take it and put a small down payment and feel good i'm paying 360-370/mth

I might get the extra kms. I'm gonna see how much I drive it though.

Okay I leased my car for 48 too. And about 20,000kms a year.

The $920 your talking about is for the 4th year. Not for 4 years. Your covered bumper to bumper for the first 3 years.

I skipped out on it.

Bare in mind too, that it's AFTER the 3yr mark that things start to break and fall apart - on any car. Especially if you drive her hard So it's important to have coverage then, IMO. Of course, with THIS car, things have started falling apart in the first month for some people (lol!) but you know what I mean.

Oh, and you do know you can 'upgrade' the mileage any time through your lease.

Yes I know that. I will probably do that if after the first year I use too much.

If you buy more mileage and dont use it you get your money back at the end. But I will just wait to see. With gas prices I worked out how much gas I can afford and how much KM that gives me. It's right around 20k a year.

But i'm going to tell them I will take the warranty if it's 405 a month total. I know they are charging more than they should, so I would feel better knowing I didn't take a bad deal. At 405 They would make around 800 off me from it which is plenty! I'm getting it for a low price, hopefully they will accept it and bring the price up.

I just got a call from the lady and I was accepted with financing. Thank god! I didn't want to have my parents to co-sign for me. That would be hell.
