factory alarm is weird

few months ago my only key fob broke. bought the car used it came with 1 key 1 key fob. so don't ask where the other set is lol. ok so after the fob broke. i dont use the power locks because obviously it will arm the alarm and yea... anywho, my friend forgot her cigs in my car one night, i gave her my keys so she can grab em right quick annnnd she armed the alarm by accident. so i hop in my car the horn does the 5 beep thing and the alarm goes off. i put my key in the ignition and go to the acc part, i do not turn the car on just so the car recognizes the key and disables the alarm. no that didnt happen. alarm kept going for 30 seconds. i started the car alarm went off again for 30 seconds. didnt happen again until i drove my friend home and while the car was running she opened the passenger door.... alarm went off. so i drive like an ass for 30 seconds. get home. turn the car off open the door. alarm goes off again. this time i wait until its done. i re-insert the key in the ignition and go directly to accessory and the car doesnt recognize the key... WTF is going on? my friend has a cobalt when his fob broke and the alarm was set. he stuck his key in the ignition and it disabled his alarm... is my alarm on crack? because it def lets my car start but doesnt disable my alarm... is there another solution to this problem other than go to the dealer... can hp tuners disable my alarm? or some kinda tech tool...

oh and since this happened i have disconnected that annoying ass horn lol

Did the same thing on a friends Explorer. Disconnect the battery for 15 min, it resets it.

No it doesn't work like that Karlen.

My alarm was going off everytime I opened the door or turned the key forward. My fob broke over a year ago as well. These fobs are junk IMO... At the mall last week I locked the car w/ the power lock button. Returned to the car and the alarm started this nonsense. For the last year I've manually locked the doors. Using the power lock button that day must have triggered the VATS system when I used my key to unlock the door. Unhooking the battery did not reset it. I had it off over night... Resorted to pulling the horn fuse.

It took me reflashing my tune on my HPT cable for it to stop this alarming bullshit.

That's strange. My friend's Explorer did the same thing, unhooked the battery and he was fine as long as he didn't hit the keypad buttons on the outside of the car to lock it.

yeah my horn starts going everytime i unlock it with the key. my fob isn't working right and sometimes won't unlock it(yes i changed the battery in it) and so i lock it with the button on the door panel. and then when i unlock it with the key it goes off.

Mine started doing the same thing. I changed the battery as well, still only has a few feet of reception, and it works 1/3 of the time. Errrrr

So besides pulling the horn fuse, is there any solution to this problem? If its not a key fob issue is it something reception related within the car?

you can disable the alarm through the DIC controls. this may solve your issue temporarily

that was exactly my situation. so i took apart the fob and took a look at the circuit and there was stray piece of metal running across the part that contacts the unlock button. so cleaned it up and changed the battery and it was all better

I'm telling you, you need to have it reflashed. Take it to the dealer or someone w/ HPT. That was the only thing that fixed mine after locking the doors with the bottons in the car and then opening it with a key. PCM glitch
