First gear
First gear
Anyone have the problem were their cobalt jerks back and forth when they cruise in first gear? Sometimes when I'm coasting around 5-10 mph the car starts jerking all of a sudden until I hit the brakes and shift into 2nd. Anyone know what this could be?
Its because the torque in first gear is multiplied so much by gear reduction that even the slightest depression of the pedal will lunge the car forward. Every manual trans ever made does this. Automatics don't because they have the ability to slip the clutches and are probably already in 2nd gear. Unless you put it in low gear of course.

maybe its because you use the brake to shift gears instead of the clutch lol
Problem solved. Don't cruise in first.
yeah thats what I'm going to do, cuz this **** blows. I never noticed it before cuz I used to coast in 2nd. But since I got tranny mounts I switched to first cuz of the vibs!
How would they tune it to take away torque in first gear without actually changing the first gear ratio? That sounds kind of fishy to me. These computers don't actually know what gear they are in with a manual transmission do they?
if you want to glide in first, push the clutch in a split second before you let off the gas that should help...especially if you are in stop and go traffic... maybe that will help... but once again first sucks lol
