Your speakers are failing. Time to replace them. They get wet inside the door. Are you still using your stock speakers?

yes they are stock. Is there anyway to prevent it from happening if I get new ones?

If they failed because they got wet? You can buy some foam pods that cover the rear of the speaker to avoid them getting wet again. They are called XTC speaker baffles (google them).

thank you!!! Very helpful. I know it has to be water damage. No damage to the wires. I will definitely have to look into these.

Depends on how much power you want. I'm at 125W per speaker right now, for a total of 500W without a sub. They sell decent ones for stock systems though. Rule of thumb if the cone is made of paper like the stockers it is a **** speaker.

You'll need 6 1/2" speakers or similar, and may need to modify the door to make them fit.

JBL GTO's, accept no substitutes. Best speakers I have ever purchased in my life. (i also have the factory pioneer amp running them though. 2ohm is vital to that system)

I feel like I'm waaaaay overkilling because mine weigh twice as much and put out twice the RMS power at double the impedance (4ohm).

how's the bass on them? I'm not looking for a huge amount of bass it's just that I like bass and I like to listen to the gorillaz and such and they have bassy songs.

both can happen over time. cobalts, for whatever reason have a tendency to fail front speakers, HHRs do as well.

door speakers almost always get wet, just replace em

Those speakers will need to be run through an amp FYI. So will any serious speakers over 40-50W RMS. For clarity, most people running door speakers use AB class amps, and subs use D class amps. If you replace the door speakers, you might as well replace the rear deck speakers too(IMO). Those are 6x9 and that size will fit directly without having to mod anything. If you don't feel like wiring your own amp or paying someone to do it, just get some plain 4ohm speakers. This is what the factory head unit uses. Also, ignore max power ratings as they are bullshit. The real power level you want is the RMS power. There are speakers that claim to be 500W max power, but are only rated 40W RMS.

Here's what my buddy in OKC uses for door speakers in his truck without an amp:

Here's what I am running with an MBQuart ONYX4.125 amp:

Disagree. With proper setup they can. I realize my setup is an extreme example, but I don't need a sub unless I want to blast my bass. I have plenty of bass when I want it and no sub.

you can get enough bass with aftermarket speakers. and you can do mods to improve bass from them but if you compare bass from the stock speakers with aftermarket stock will almost always be more

I noticed in my sister's Kia Soul that the stock speakers were more bassy, but the voices(and anything that wasn't supposed to be bassy really) were muffled and awful sounding. Aftermarkets are clearer and you can turn up the bass boost even on your stock stereo and regain the bass sound.

IMO I'd rather have razor sharp audio with the option of bass over having muffled audio with additional bass any day of my life.

That's because the stock speakers are mids with no tweeters, I noticed a huge difference in terms of the quality of sound going from the pioneer OEM's to the JBL GTO's, plus the voicecoils on them were gigantic compared to the pioneers. Only issue I had first time around was sticking 4ohm speakers in a 2ohm system, which sounded like ****. The pioneer upgrade speakers were actually worse then the OEM speakers but I love the JBL's.

This is the pioneer 4ohm upgrades I tried first, next to the JBL's, as you can see the JBL's come with a crossover built into the back of the speaker for the center tweeter.

here they are up against the 6x9 oem's
