Future for Cobalts?
Future for Cobalts?
What do you guys think is in store for the Cobalts in the near future. What improvements do you think Chevrolet could incorporate or imporve upon?
My only gripe from test driving a 2006 SS is the seats, they dont seem to fit the user that well and provide as much support as I would like around corners.

I think AWD would be nice, but then again I wouldn't be one of those people paying $30k+ for an economy car. Although the evo's and STI's are nice cars, I would never pay $30k+ for them, because in the end...it's still just an economy car. Take a long ride in one and let me know how you feel when you get out...same goes for the cobalt...lol
Honestly, I couldn't ask for anything more out of my 2.4. It gets me to work, has a nice sound system (better than the GTO....lol) and has some pep when needed.
I'm sure most of the guys on here are itching for a turbo though...

I don't believe you going to see much change at all. There will be a body style update. They already put in the newer radios, so those won't change. It will still be a FWD Delta, except the Delta platform will recieve some chassis updates (Delta 2) that will pretty much be invisible.
The powertrains will probably be the only change. There will still be the L61. As for other engines, I don't know. I would like to see the LNF replace the LSJ and LE5 completely. Idealy, I would like to see the LE5 replace the L61, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Agreed
GMPP has released some interesting stuff for the Cobalt. Recently they tried an intake (not much for gains from what I hear). They also have stage kits for the supercharged SS. I'd like to see them try to compete with Scion a little more. They offer quality parts from the company that are otherwise only available in the aftermarket. It's not likely, but it would be nice.

2.2 I can easiely see going direct injection . The euro 2.2 has already done this . There is a gas/electric Hybrid engine with a year from now coming to the Cobalt . LE5 doesnt appear to going anywhere .

yes and no, it allows for more exact engine management, it's better for fuel mileage than power, but MPG and HP are two sides of the same coin, being efficent is being efficent.

Also, GM will eventually change the Z08 model name to STi just cause...no reason needed.

Anyway, I forgot to say, the Flex Fuel engine will probably become an option too, I think it's the L45 or somthing like that.
A direct injected L61 is a good idea, but it would be a totally different engine due a totally different head design.
It would get rid of all that silly EGR/SAI emmisions stuff, and would be a great tuner.

LOL...well if chevy was really concerned with selling cars, they could just slap some toyota badges on and sell them like hot cakes...even if the cars turn out to be major POS', people with still buy them

Theres no ecotec flexfuel planned , like I said a hybrid 2.2(LAP) is coming .
I want to see new threads on the seats. I like the seats, but I don't like the way they look. Mine's too plain. I know I got the base, but the rental I'm driving while the Cobalt is in the shop has really good-looking seats. It's a Lancer ES.
