Gas?

what kind of gas do you guys use?

i have a 2.4SS and the manual says i can use the 87 or whatever, but premium can be used for better performance. i only have put gas in it once and i just put in the regular.

also, i dunno if my dealer was just bullshittin me, but he told me that my 06 can use the E85 or wahtever **** that they use out in the midwest. is that true?

I always use 94 octane, but sometimes use 91 octane. This is a high output motor,if you use 87-89 you will not get the same performance and might experience some engine knocks

use the lowest octane that won't product engine knock... any more than that and you're doing 2 things:

1) Wasting your money
2) Hurting your performance

is it vital to use the premium on the SS/SC ?
dealer told me "its all it will run on", but I read that some people put the regular fuel in with no problems ?

it will run on lower than premium. The computer sees the lower octane and takes away some ponies.

If your car's not there (and it isn't), then don't use E85.

None of the Cobalts will run the E85...

You can use whatever gas you want to in the 2.4... but premium is best for performance.

E85 will destroy your car. The flex fuel vehicles are modified because ethanol is highly corrosive.

If you have the stage 2 you probably need 93 octane. The retuned PCM usually requires a higher octane. If the manual says 87 is fine.... use 87. If it says premium only, then use premium. Your computer is tuned for a certain octane. My 200hp 3.8 didnt need 93 octane till i got my computer reprogrammed. the only way you will know for sure is either A) experimenting with mileage and testing performance (ex. take it to the track) with each fuel. or B) scanning it to find out if there is spark knock.

yea, The E85 will eat your engine alive! DO NOT USE THE E85!!! But i always use Shell V-Power, but use whatever you want. That is, until you start to get knock, then move up a few Octane Levels.

The owners manual says to run 87 octane in the 2.2 and 2.4 and to run 91+ in the 2.0 SC to avoid spark knock and power loss.

I live in Illinois and everywhere I go there is 93 octane.

I run Shell's V-Power 91 in my '91 Caprice Classic 5.0L. It bumps the mileage up a bit and really helps turn tires...

Bet that helped a lot!
