Getting my Cobalt
Getting my Cobalt
Hey everyone,
I am a newb and my name is Keith, nice to meet you all! I posted a while back and you were very helpful directing me to what I wanted to know. I've been reading many of your posts and you've really helped me to make the decision to get a Cobalt. The other car I was seriously looking at was the Mazda3. It's a nice car and I liked it, but when I got in the Cobalt and drove an LT for a test, I just knew it was THE CAR for me.
At the end of this month I am ordering an '07 SS sedan, laser blue metallic with sunroof package and AT. I know that most of you guys are racers and performance guys and that I may catch **** for getting the AT, but truth is stick is a pain in Dirty Jerz and my knees are all f*ed up anyway so shifting on long drives has been a problem for me. (Another story for another day.)
For those of you who may be in the know, I understand they're starting production of the Cobalts right around now. If I order at the end of August/beginning of September will they still be producing or will they have switched to another model and I have to wait for them to switch back? I freely confess I don't know much about making a car or production, so that's why I ask.
Either way I expect that it will take 6 weeks to get the car so I should be getting it by mid-October. I can't wait. Currently I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler that I love, but at $90/week for gas I can't maintain this. By the grace of God I am able to keep and insure both vehicles (at Jersey rates no less) which is good, because I just can't part with the Jeep. But I can't use it to go to work anymore either, my wallet hurts (30 miles one way)!
I certainly don't want to wish my life away, but it's killing me that I need to wait until the end of this month! Being a teacher I won't get paid until mid-September and I don't want to take the money I have reserved for a down payment and use it, because if I do now I know something bad will happen where I will need that money!
And as is pretty obvious, I am a HUGE Mets fan. I will talk to anyone about the Mets too, but in the proper forum section though
Anyway, sorry for the long post but I just want to say hi, thanks and that I am looking forward to sharing my Cobalt with you guys and gals and to chatting with you all.
Cheers,
Keith

Welcome man and I am glad to see you chose the Cobalt. I am sure you will greatly appreciate an extra $60 bucks a week in your pocket once the car is in your hands. I am not sure about the production or assembly process but I highly doubt that when they start the process that they will immediately change lines so soon so you should be fine with ordering when you do. Hell check now and who knows you may get what you want sooner than you think.
well this is all I could find as production details are not public yet I guess

OniMirage, thanks a million man...you rock! I have a great dealer that I am working with and I will be ordering from him so I will talk to him about these. They may be too far out of the area for a transfer (Bethlehem may be okay though). If anyone is in NJ and wants a recommendation for a dealer, pm me.
Litre, now you know my pain. Fourteen years is a good run and congratulations, but this has absolutely gotta hurt you guys! But I have McCann in my fantasty league -- what a stud he turned out to be! And speaking of... Jose and D-Wright are insane! Yeah Omar, yeah!

You can also use gmbuypower.com to search by area code to see what 2007s are appearing in your area. I would go to the dealer soon if you want to order a specific car so it will come in faster. They have been producing 07 since June, and they are just starting to come on the lots now. I ordered an 07 coupe mid-july, and I'm going to get it the last week in august.
As for how production works, the line that builds Cobalts only builds cobalts. (This is the Lordstown plant. ) They won't switch to different models, they have pretty much each model on a seperate line to get max production for now.

Thanks Cloudy.
Roccobladr, I am kinda slow, FTW? I'm sure I should know this but it's lost on me. As for the Phils, nice try this year. Think Manuel is around next year? I'd sure love to have Utley on our team though, nice write up on him in SI this week. But Valentin has been amazing for us this year, but he and this season he's having won't be around forever.

Welcome to the site. I hear you on shifting in NJ. I recently had my knee replaced (3monthsago) and I picked up my Cobalt SS/SC last month. I am glad to be back in a manual trans car. The car has been great so far. Good luck with your new purchase.
Depends on how it's used but with the previous response it was a good thing. Had it been used to describe a team other than the mets to jab at your funny bone such as "yanks ftw mets ftL (for the loss)" it woulda been a bad.
