Ghost in my dash
Both the tach and the speedo are electronic gauges that are connected through the ecu. What you are seeing as pulses is the charge bleeding off some of the capacitors within the ecu unit. It is totally normal.
What was really strange was the gremlin in the original ecu programming on the 2005 models that would blink the highbeam and brake light in the dash at totally random intervals every couple days while driving. Made me think I was seeing things for the first 2 months I had the car. A re-flash as the dealer with an upgraded program fixed it.

it's some type of self cleaning process for something, i forget. Search for it, it has been explained

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
A noise may be heard from the rear of vehicle; typically 3-5 knocks during initial cold start. The noise may sound like someone outside of the vehicle is tapping on the back window or on the rear exterior body panels.
Recommendation/Instructions:
This noise is from the vehicle's EVAP canister vent solenoid going through the diagnostic cleaning cycle, which is part of the software calibration set-up. Replacing the EVAP canister may not resolve the issue when the vehicle is re-exposed to a cold start. No parts should be replaced. This should be considered a normal condition for 2008 and previous model years.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Jeese, people worry about the littlest things. If i had a tire fall off, i'd worry. Some needles pulsing? woop-dee-do.
Mine hasn't done either of these, anyway (pulsating needles or clunk in the trunk).

You should go back and smack them in the face. It is one of two things, if while running it is solinoids in the evap system, if parked it is the fuel pump. Both completely normal unless you have less than 1/4 tank of gas or 3/4 tank of gas and the evap solinoids still sound. The car is not capable of exicuting a evap test unless it is between 1/4 and 3/4 tank.
my 06 ss/sc does it what it is when the guages loose total power the servo's / motors go into a rested settled posistion. once u turn on your key they do back to the 0 rpm and 0 mph.
like others have stated there is nothing to worry about i noticed this same problem when i was doing my clearing behind my guages to get ready for a color change..
its totally normal now for the trunk thing i have never herd it
anyways later and have a good night sleep
