lol Well, I didn't buy it to get tons of speeding tickets either. Speeding tickets are freaking exspensive and not worth the insurance hikes. $1600 a year is enough for me. I'm not saying i drive 5 under btw. I'm just saying being excessive with speed is not worth the cash. Long drives sure I'll be doing 80 or 85 on the highway, but speeding through an area with Village police instead of county patrolling that are always eager to bring in more $$ for the department is not my idea of a smart idea. Also theres no rule that says you need t drive like a nutjob just ebcause you like teh SS/SC. I am freespirited when I want to be and enjoy the car as it was meant to be enjoyed. Sooo yeahh...shut up

I bought the escort this summer. Worked pretty well - just remember that having a radar detector doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention. I use both my eyes as a lookout for cops and brake lights, plus i look/listen for my radar detector to go off.

And just remember, they don't have to tag you with radar to get you for speeding. They actually have to be able to judge the speed of the car + or - 2 mph here just to qualify for radar use. Not to mention, if you are going fast enough, radar or no, they WILL come after you.

BTW, wired is the way to go. Wireless units don't have anywhere near the range or performance that wired ones have.

So what does everyone think of the Cobra radar detectors? How about the Cobra 9330 if you aren't looking to spend over $100?

I've had the Cobra Radar Detector for about 9 months now. I paid $65 for it and have yet to have any problems with it.

I have a $40 cobra and I cant belive it works so good. I may not be the best but it has saved me twice. I was on rt 30 going 15 over and it went off like crazy, I hit my breaks and the guy who was follwing me in the other lane went past me and a cop pulls out and I went ****!, and he went by me and got the other guy so it has easly paid for it self.

from what ive been told the bel rx65 blows the escort 8500 (x50) outta the water. theres lots of vids on youtube and such, the x50 gives you about 5 sec warning, and the rx65 gives you about 23 sec of warning.

If you don't care about the money, spend the little extra and buy yourself the Valentine One. I would buy this, but if I get stopped in Windsor, and searched, they may tell me to run my $55 Whistler over.. and then write me a $500 ticket. Hence why I don't have one of those. But it is suppose to be better than the Escort, I'm not sure.

If you want to get a good radar detector, check out this site
HTML Code:
www.radarbusters.com
you can check out test results and get a radar detector that actually works. My suggestion is the bel rx-65.

I have had a Beltronics 995V in my car for about 3 months and love it. Cost a little over $300, but definately worth the money. It gives me a 2-3mile notice on the highway and even gives me a signal when they are coming around a corner over a hill. I love it.

I had a Cobra bought a Radio shack. It was the 9749 or something like that. I returned it 2 weeks later because it beeped at everything, I drive through Boston 5 times a week and it pretty much constanly beeped from the time i got in the city to when i passed through. I went to Best Buy and bought and Escort Passport 8500 (the red one) and dont regret it a bit. It picks up singlas from a great distance around turns and not even pionted in my direction. Much more sensitive to false alarms too!!! My $.02!!

If you want a good Whistler, pick up a Pro-73...ranks right up there with the best...its not as good as a $300 of course but for less than $150, you cant beat the performance of it.

there have been many tests and hands down the V1 or valentine one is the best detection unit out there. It's also upgradeable and has many mounting options etc. It can be hardwired and also a remote display can be used. When i get some doe together im going to buy one asap. V1 FTW hands down.
